It still happens surprisingly often. You're always hearing about UXBs turning up in France, WW2 mines washing up on the beaches, crashed aircraft being found in dense forest complete with crew etc. ...

If he's really that interested, then I'd hope he'd be getting in touch with the relevant parties to inform them of his finds.
I suspect the attraction of really cool army [LIFTED] like guns and stuff is actually at the root of it, rather than any interest in modern history.
