From the BBC:

Quote:
Court backs ex-wife over divorce cash

A former New Age traveller whose ex-husband became a millionaire a decade after they separated has won a Supreme Court court financial claim.

Kathleen Wyatt, 55, had lodged the claim against Dale Vince, 53, founder of wind-power firm Ecotricity.

Five Supreme Court justices unanimously ruled in her favour when they gave their verdict earlier.

Seems very odd, but no more details at the moment.

Very odd. The high court sided very much on the side of the ex-husband so this isn't just a nuance thing it's a complete turnaround.

Wow. If this ruling sticks, it's going to make a lot of people think again about getting married. And it basically chucks the notion of divorce being final in the bin.

Devil will be in the detail. So long as its based on his "Old" income - as in when he was married then that is fine - if its based on his new , Divorced" income then that's totally wrong IMO

Just seen the report on Channel 4 News about this.
Apparently, and somewhat unusually, at the time of the divorce the question of finance was not settled at the same time (seems like an odd thing to do but hey ho). The ex wife argued that, once they had separated she had had additional outgoings (childcare) that he had not contributed to sufficiently and this had left her at a disadvantage. She has sought a lump sum as compensation for additional expense incurred - she was seeking £2m which the court judged was excessive and not upheld. The court did agree that some form of compensation was however appropriate - the value of a modest rent free home (nit clear what value they placed on that).

I've only just read that the costs of providing security for Julian Assange have reached £10,000,000.

Quote:
In August last year, Mr Assange indicated he would "soon" leave the embassy, where he has now been for more than 950 days, but he remains inside.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said it was committed to reaching a diplomatic solution."We are clear that our laws must be followed and Mr Assange should be extradited to Sweden. As ever we look to Ecuador to help bring this difficult, and costly, situation to an end," a spokesman said.

Give the Ecuadorian Embassy the bill and see if that produces any results.
