From the BBC iPlayer site: Good news, but if it's a 'feature', why are they seeking to remove it? Oh, and giving me an FAQ option before I typed out an entire email would have been nice

We got caught up on the good Doctor over the weekend and watched the newest episode on Sunday, it's proving a very compelling series but I'm starting to get irritated by the River Song stuff, too much hinting, not enough concrete info. Also, if the Doctor is in his final incarnation (I think??) how long is he going to live? The way River keeps going on about him "being too early on the timeline" it sounds like he's got many hundreds of years to go, why doesn't he just use the TARDIS to go forward until he finds out what's going on?? I'm loving the series though and the angels scare the bejesus out of me!!

He's not. There's 12 renegerations so there's two more incarnations of the character to come before whoever's in charge of it at that point pulls a fast one and explains how he is going to manage to live on in yet more incarnations. Mark

This one is the 11th isn't it? Is it 12 processes of reincarnation or 12 doctors?

Like the Master, the Doctor was also named as the Keeper of Traken, which would endow him with immortality. This rather handy Tom Baker / Pater Davison pair of stories kind of keeps the door open for any many regenerations as they like.

Except for each regeneration makes the Doctor appear younger.

Is that actually a written rule though or is it more just the way the producers have gone? I haven't read anything official which states that whenever a Time Lord regenerates it has to be in a younger guise, even though this has actually been the case with The Doctor. Mark

No idea. It's just my observation that it appears to be the case.
