Drive a total of 6 hours today up and down the M5.
I really want to fit for and aft cannons to the car, just to help those drivers with a death wish on their way. In really heavy rain, with perhaps 10m of visibility and lorry spray, the correct distance to follow me is not 3 feet from my bumper.

:) I was in the A Class, at appropriate speeds.
I'd have been slower in the Camaro, as it doesn't benefit from things like airbags and such.

So it's true, airbags are dangerous because they make people drive more recklessly...

what was it the stand up routine said? The best way to cut accidents is to replace the airbag in the steering wheel with an enormous spike?

LOL, I was thinking what a safe place it would be if the most powerful machine on the road was a C5

It certainly concentrates the mind... My father had an Alvis Grey Lady for a while. The steering column on that was a rod of steel, as thick as your thumb that ran from the front of the car in a straight line and ended about a foot in front of your chest. In the event of an accident (assuming you weren't thrown from the car because there were no seat belts), it'd go straight through your chest.

Nope, not finding anything relating to that that makes sense when I google for it. Can you explain further (or PM to avoid derailing the thread)?

Oopsies - didn't see this before

It's all to do with the Women Bishops thing. Basically the House of Bishops amended the Measure as they are entitled so to do. However, the more rabid elements of the pro-Lobby have either mistakenly or deliberately misread the amendment. They are shouting that it allows churches to choose which bishop they want. It doesn't.

It all arises because of a few sections of scripture (particularly in Paul's letters) which talk about the place of women in the church and which can be read any of several different ways. Because of these passages it is perfectly possible, without being a woman-hater, to come to the view that women should not be in leadership.

Under the plans in the measure, any church can write a letter saying that they do not want to be overseen by their diocesan bishop because the bishop in question either is a woman or openly ordains women. At this point, the diocesan bishop has to appoint a PEV (Provincial Episcopal Visitor) - known as a "flying bishop" because although they perform the visiting function of a bishop, they have no powers of oversight and report straight back to the diocesan bishop. All this is utterly arcane but perfectly easy to deal with.

However, the hoo-hah is over a new sub-clause that was inserted by the Bishops who had spotted a weakness in the Measure. At the point where the diocesan bishop was informed that a parish found the Bishop's "execution of ministry" unacceptable, he/she would have to appoint a "flying bishop". However, there was nothing in the Measure to prevent the diocesan bishop appointing a PEV who was similarly unacceptable.

Now, I am earnestly trying to apply Hanlon's Razor and am assuming that several people have been dumb. However, it does strike me as somewhat suspect that those organisations most likely to want to appoint such an unacceptable PEV (in order to pick a fight with the anti-Lobby) are the ones shouting the loudest.

Gaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'm pissed off with the increasing amount of TDKR trailers. I managed to dodge the trailer when I watched Captain America as I recognised the first scene. I then accidentally watched an advert from one of the car companies. This weekend, I looked up at the TV and another advert came on. Another three have come on in the last two hours.
