There's a film I can't imagine seeing on a regular TV.
You need to see it in 3D on a huge screen.

AngelA, a cracking Besson film about a supernatural woman who's here to save a tragic man.

Very good, just finished it, thanks for the recommendation.

Glad you liked it. It's one of those films that I always feel I'm taking a gamble recommending, but overall I think it's rewarding.

I was happy enough just streaming it on my 37", but I know what you mean, I tried to re-watch Pacific Rim recently... Looked more like '[LIFTED] you, Bay!' on a TV set.

I've got that strange feeling now, where my brain thinks it can understand French and wants to talk to French people.

Also the woman just reminded me constantly of a Parisienne I once knew. who was somehow even more exasperated with everything I did, who also looked a bit like Angela. I never did understand most of the things she said to me, but it sounded awesome and I was enjoying the conversations.

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox - Absolutely brilliant, one of the best DC animated films, probably top three. Doesn't let up at all. And properly violent with it! Want to read the book now...

So I went to see Lucy. And it isn't anywhere near Besson's best work. And ALL of the science is wrong. But it has sparks of flair, one very good car sequence and the occasional surrealist moment that tickled me. It makes no sense but then it never seems to believe it has to. It tells a frankly ludicrous story but seems content in doing so.

I can't honestly say whether the attempts at profundity are meant to be taken seriously or not, but as some parts of it are plainly so over the top they could only be intentionally so, I'm inclined to believe it's parody or at least simple playfulness rather than an attempt to answer any serious questions. If it reminds me of anything, it's Akira rather than a typical action film. A very light and ephemeral thing; a way to waste two hours. And there's nothing inherently wrong with that, given it doesn't seem to set out to be any more.

Not a film I have any particular desire to watch again but I've watched far, far worse.

Violet and Daisy

One of the last James Gandolfini films. Leon meets Pulp Fiction meets Spring Breakers.

Worth a look if only for the internal bleeding dance

Captain America : The Winter Soldier.

So, a second action movie with Scarlett Johanssen in it in two days, although the two couldn't be more different. CA:tWS is a model of neat, self-contained story telling. It presents few if any surprises (seriously, if you can't see the twists coming, you need to evaluate your life choices) but tells a tale that whips along at pace while presenting an approximation of character development, if in a fairly broad brush way. The main players do their jobs competently, the special effects are very impressive and it all wraps itself up nicely at the end.

It's very competent blockbuster movie, satisfying in the way a good ham sandwich is satisfying. Nothing special, nothing complex and probably nothing memorable but made with care and precision and just the job when required.

It does actually have one single shot with common with Lucy. Can anyone whose seen both tell me what it is (or indeed, anyone whose seen one or the other care to take a guess)?

Yes, predictably life affirming but still charming. I would recommend it though just to remind ourselves about being stuck in a rut and also for the immaculately opulent sets. Go on go on rent it :D

Saw this at the weekend. Brilliant film. 9/10

American Hustle - I liked this, strangely. The trailers were rubbish, it was Oscar nominated which is ironically often a bad sign, and it looked like yet another 'it's the 70s! Look at the clothes!' movie. Which it is, but the acting's good and it moves along quick enough. It probably could have been a bit shorter in some places and longer in others, but I found it to be solid, and you can't say that too often these days. The one thing that really bugged me was just how often the camera lingered over Amy Adams to the point of being incredibly sleazy. To the extent where there's a totally unnecessary scene of a guard frisking her bare legs!

She was hired becase she's a good actress and, God only knows, sexy as a bonus, but zooming in on her arse half way through the film for example is just creepy.

I saw it at the weekend too. She has a good rack eh? lol

Loved Bradley's perm :)

Seriously I enjoyed it as well. Was surprised at the ending, was expecting something more violent.

That's interesting because the trailers gave nothing away. I couldn't even tell what genre of film it was. You have a shot of each actor and then a brief scene of them dancing. At one point I wondered whether it was some kind of musical!
