Interesting idea, but how many will buy when they replace their phone every year? Or the design changes significantly every couple of year?

Depends how much they cost I suppose. It's a relatively simple device - no need for much in the way of electronics or batteries - so I suspect they'll be quite cheap.

Yes they will be very price sensitive. I can see the interest from gamers but it also needs games that will play on them.

There's plenty of games on iOS already and they're building a game controller API into iOS 7, so pretty much any game that wants to will be able to support them. You might even get it patched into older games...

I know that there are loads of games, I already have folders full of them! I was thinking of games that could benefit from such a controller. If there is a game controller API then that really would solve that problem, as the controller could simply link into the API to work as expected.

No I rarely press the pre-order button unless I am actually ready to buy.

It also says at the top

Maplin Electronics are bringing 3D printers to the UK high street. At £699.99, the printer is affordable for the average consumer and doesn't take up much more space than an inkjet printer.

The words "start saving, I want one" were uttered to me by my wife.

I think that they can be very useful. I just do not have enough things that I want to make to justify one. Until then I will simply keep a list of things that could be made with one, and one day hopefully there will be a tipping point and I will just have to get one.

It would be great for a club where people could share it, but how many "normal" people would use it more than once or twice?

Exactly, though I suspect that once people make a few things they might discover that there are many other things that could be made as well. This might be useful in schools where they could definitely benefit, even charging the public for items to cover the costs of the printer.
