Exactly. The Brits seem to forget the French have had their moments against us. William the Conqueror anyone? (oh and his side kick army commander of his northern armies that just so happens to be my ancestor ;) )

Oh and the cheese eating surrender monkey crap came from the US who no doubt laugh about it while touring the Statue de la Liberté. Arses.

I always thought that was from Red Dwarf. :lol:

Oh, and no offence intended of course.

Bratty and Fin, you two have been conversing like this for over five years now, don't stop. :D

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

The idea of the French being cowards has always been bollocks. The Napoleanic French weren't cowards - you can't conquer a continent if you're scared of a fight. The court of Charlemagne, possibly the greatest military leader Europe has ever had was in France. They lost more people in the trenches than we did in WWI and them being occupied in WWII was much more about the Germans coming up with an entirely revolutionary way of waging war than it was to do with them not fighting. Plus a lot of the 'Free French' fought to protect Britain in the Battle of Britain, plus they insisted in being among the first onto the beaches on D-Day because it was their damn country and they were going to fight to get it back.

Agreed the whole cheese eating (etc) thing is an American invention because the French wouldn't join in in the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan like we did. I might be pushing my own opinion here but I think their stance turned out to be a whole lot smarter than ours...

Jon

Getting rid of the aristocracy was a good plan as well.

I was going to comment on the elusive Pimpernel, but I can't think of anything clever enough to bother you all with.

Actually according to QI the French over history have a remarkably good record in wars.

Just mentioning the Pimpernel made me laugh. No idea why. And why do I now have visions of crushed velvet?

Moments? I'm not sure a 116 year-long war can be described as a moment ;)

If we're supposed to be so very good, does stalemating us for over a century not make the French also very good?

William wasn't French - he was Norman.

Norman != French

Indeed.

It's not as if the Americans (Colombians to be strictly correct) have so much history that they can easily forget the massive debt they owe to the French. Idiots.
