Good point. It's not quite as good as it sounds, it's just a consumer raid, nothing fancy. We do the pr for western digital, so we've always got drives that have been used for reviews and demos kicking about.

I need a 5TB RAID, I reckon. That'd be handy. Even just a consumer one with nothing fancy would do.

Yeah, no need to spend real money, about £900 should do it easily.

If the time comes you'll be happy to have had them I'm sure. I may have only worked on boats in the tourism industry, but I have a lot more respect for the skippers who've run regular drills than those who haven't.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

I appear to have bitten a chunk out of my lip while asleep over the past few nights...

eeeech. A WD RAID drive setup with no redundancy? I hope whatever it is youve got on there isn't very important.

It's a mirror of my main drive so only really needed if my main drive goes down. Though because it's bigger than the the drive it's backing up, I'm doing it time machine stylee, which could be useful to go back to past iterations of files, but not essential as I think I've only ever wished I could have done that a couple of times in the last ten years. It's also probably going to be a short term solution as my medium term plan is a raid 5 backing up to a fireproof drive.
I actually thought about the redundancy issue and considered having it as a 3tb mirrored configuration, but given that it's only a mirror in itself, the lure of 6tb was to great to ignore!

Dunno about their RAID stuff, but we've got several WD drives at work that lead pretty unforgiving lives, and they're all well past the 2yr mark with no issues. I've got 2 WD Elements at home.

It's in the middle of my sleep that pisses me off. There's no need for it. Other rigs can work drills round different shift patterns, do why can't this one?

Came in this morning and it printed straight off with no dramas as I knew it would. Must have been a Friday thing.

I would frequently leave a computer problem to stew over night and it would be perfectly fine the next day. it's computer gremlins I'm telling ya!
