Some of my best friends I'm lucky to see once a year, if that. The test of a good friend is that when you see them it's like you only saw them yesterday and you know that if times were bad you could always count on them, and vice-versa.

I met some lifelong friends at uni and considered them to be some of my best friends. After uni we all moved on up and down the country and had girlfriends, wives and babies so dont see each other so much - so more so than others i.e. me. Yet when we do finally meet up it's like nothing has changed and we'd only seen each other hours before, not months.

Friendships, like everything, are subjective.

For some people what you describe is accurate. For others, regular contact is more important. Personally, I try to keep a balance of both kinds of friendships in my life. That said, irrespective of distances/lives/whatever, friendships are like all relationships - they do require at least a minimum of effort to be maintained.

People come into your life for a reason, a season, or
a lifetime. When you figure out which one it is, you
will know what to do for each person.

When someone is in your life for a REASON . . . It is
usually to meet a need you have expressed. They have
come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you
with guidance and support, to aid you physically,
emotionally, or spiritually. They may seem like a
godsend, and they are! They are there for the reason
you need them to be.

Then, without any wrong doing on your part, or at an
inconvenient time, this person will say or do something
to bring the relationship to an end.

Sometimes they die.
Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.

What we must realise is that our need has been met, our
desire fulfilled, their work is done. The prayer you
sent up has been answered. And now it is time to move on.

When people come into your life for a SEASON . . .
Because your turn has come to share, grow, or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace, or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount
of joy. Believe it! It is real! But, only for a season.

LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons; things
you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional
foundation. Your job is to accept the lesson, love the
person, and put what you have learned to use in all
other relationships and areas of your life. It is said
that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

hm I really need a normal opinion on this, that model girl text me today asking if I was free monday or wednesday to take her to the "city" (5 miles from me) and she lives about 22 miles away from me, I just feel as though its an attempt to be used? it cost quite a bit of fuel to drive up to hers :( and dunno what to make of this, she said her dads not well so he cant so.....

what would a normal being make of this?

Hmm.
Tricky.

Would I do a favour for a friend?
Yes.

Do it, if you want, but don't expect anything in return.

And what do you ask of the people who don't?
Part of friendship is trading favours - I'll give you a lift now, if you help me out with something else.
Like, for instance, your model. Have a look at purestorm.com to get an idea of how much some models want for a shoot.
Then work out how much you'll spend in petrol driving the 22 miles.

I mean this with the best of intentions and for your own good, stop being a twat.

If you're friends and you want to do it, do it. If not or you don't want to, don't.

Say no then.
It's not really a tough decision.

Nope, I understood your point completely, you just give the impression you think the worse of people.

If you think they're "walking all over you" then don't do it. My point was why do you think she is?

As Mark says, it's not a big decision. Don't over think things. Either do it or don't, save worrying for real problems. It'll stop you getting an ulcer. ;)

My little bro is exactly the same, he drives girls everywhere, and some of them end up having sex with him. But ultimately, he never gets what he wants. Be selfish. The world will be a better place.

I guess I just lack faith in people :( ended up meeting up with her yesterday and spent all day moving all her stuff to her new flat which is up loads of stairs so my legs are dead now :( flat staircase is nothing like ive seen, paintings and wallpaper as though u are in a house, vandals could just walk in and smash them all, odd, the girl says to me "your'e supposed to be trying to impress!" when I said "I look like a tramp today, I haven't shaved and I badly need haircut :P " odd, its very nice flat and she begged to ask to visit when shes settled cos she said that Im the only friend that I see nowadays, again odd :? I remembered she likes australian wine so I hid a bottle of it in her new flat in a black box so she wont know where on earth it came from, so it will be a surprise mystery xmas gift :) favoritism really cos I dont get anyone else xmas gifts :(

pointless update over :(
