Yup - 28mm, about 7 stops of ND, a 100 ISO speed and a 30 second exposure. Something like f14 IIRC.
Anyone want to see the colour version?

Love the water. Shame the sky isn't a bit more interesting.

Yeah we'd just about lost the sun, and it was clouding over. What can you do?

Photoshop

No, just kidding. I've been waiting for the grey to make way for something resembling light for weeks but no luck around here.

Photoshop

If you had the original image as RAW and Aperture, Lightroom or similar, you could selectively change the exposure of the sky to bring up some more detail at least. It's borderline cheating but it's still technically the same photograph.

I've had a fiddle in LR, and there's really nothing of note to be seen. It was a very flat grey day.

For me, the flatness of the sky draws my eye to the water which makes for a more interesting photograph.

That's just my opinion though.

The blankness of the sky sucks the life out of the lovely greens. However the flat, characterless, clichéd water does nothing for me.

There we go, brutal honesty, though you know I love your work generally Prof ;)

Ah, i much prefer the black and white versions :)

Thanks for the feedback!
It's not something I've tried before, but there you are with a variable ND in hand, a camera and a bunch of students away filming a short.
So I went to have a play with it.

Yeah, like you, I think it's a bit of a cliché. It's like HDR - easy to get wrong, but valid and useful given the right subject and treatment.
So this is more of a 'can I?' exercise. And yes, I can - so can you - it's terribly simple.

The water has a definite "silky" look to it, which to me looks very nice.

Again, just my opinion...

To get out of the house (and out of this rut for a short time), I went for a stroll yesterday morning.

Hi all. Just posted a bit of a question for the toggies on the site http://www.x404.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=15332. I'm in the market for a new landie lens. Would appreciate any feedback on the Sigma 10-20mm, or similar. Many thanks.

Ooo, here are a few recent landscapes.
