They really should push for bigger releases if this does well, though the free dynamic could make it 'interesting' in the future... They'd also need to be of good quality to get any decent sales these days. Or, you know, heavily promoted

Well having it on the BBC every week counts as great promotion.

People need to know the game itself is out there though, and giving it away free is one thing, promoting it for the purpose of selling it is another.

Pratchett is a tad pissed off because his books haven’t been made into a hit TV series or blockbuster films (apart from some Sky 1 happening which 5 people watched). He also bitched about J K Rowling making a lot of money out of some wizard nonsense a few years back. Note that he’s not been keen on his books being adapted for screens of any size.

Pratchett has sold over 55 million books and usually sales of his books account for ~2-3% of all fiction books sold in the UK. I'd say he's more pissed off at having early onset Alzheimer's and is slowly losing his sense of self. As for bitching about Rowling thats understandable, her works are simple derivative slack works that are simplistic in the extreme. Though they are extremely successful, thus proving that lack of quality is no barrier to large sales.

You're forgetting the cartoon versions of some of his novels that were made a couple of ago and the children's TV series made about his other books (The Borrowers?). I'm not particularly a Pratchett fan but even I know there's more than the Sky series. IIRC The Borrowers was hugely successful - I think it won a couple of BAFTAs. And I don't remember any Who blockbuster movies recently either really. The old B&W classics are quite good on a B-movie scale but are far from Ben Hur. And the only recent movie they've made was the Paul McGann thing, which I believe even Who fans would hope everyone has forgotten. When it comes down to it, Pratchett is one of the most successful storytellers in the UK today and if he has something to say about someone else's storytelling, you'd be a fool to dismiss it. As it happens I'm rather disappointed with the pure storytelling in the current series so far. The plots are entirely rudimentary and don't really hang together, which they try to disguise on screen by making the characters run about as much as possible. I doubt any storyteller who takes much pride in his work is overjoyed at it being adapted to the screen, given the vast majority of works are butchered in the process.

Is it me or is the new series going faster ,I mean Tennant 's shows had me gripped and felt like 1 hour long or more the new series seem's to be 15mins long , maybe it's a Time Lord thing.

No, it's a 'oh my god, the scripts awful, keep the pace up so people don't notice' thing. Jon

I'm sad to say I concur with that assessment. I loved "Blink" and the library ep was great. He's also clearly got some nice ideas aesthetically. Even Smith has very much impressed me. But the writing does seem to be massively lacking when compared with either the specials, or the previous full season.

'The Borrowers' wasn't done by Pratchet, it was written by an author called Mary Norton. Pratchet wrote a book called The Carpet People that was about tiny people who lived in the carpet. Is that what you are thinking about?
It would appear that his Discwold book 'Going Postal' is currently being turned into a TV special (presumably by Sky again).
As for the current series of Doctor Who, I'm liking it but it doesn't have quite the depth of the RTD era stuff. And I'm still a bit cross about the day-glo Daleks. It thought the bronze coloured ones were considerably better. The new ones look like a joke.

The "kids " books converted were "truckers"," diggers" and "wings". TV animation stuff. Not bad books or series as kids stuff goes, but the books had better pictures (in my mind).
He is a great storyteller, many levels. At times I can't stop laughing. He has a right to an opinion, and to be annoyed at his altzheimers-if he is.

Yep, them's the ones. Pretty much agree. You may disagree with his opinion and you have every right to, but to say his opinion doesn't count for anything is simply not true. He's talking about something he himself is, objectively, bloody good at. Jon
