My gall bladder is becoming an increasing problem. I suspect it's on it's way out totally so I'm really up against the clock. Rubbish nights sleep last night due to pain and it's still grumbling away this morning. 14kg still to lose so it looks like I'm SOL on sleeping properly without worry until September.

How can the NHS refuse you vital surgery based on your weight? What happens if things get critical before then?

Going under is risky enough for someone of normal weight, but being overweight puts even more strain on your body. If the illness is critical then the NHS will operate, and if it isn't critical then setting weight limits to improve your situation is a wise idea.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

They've said they will operate under emergency conditions, but my weight and my problems with anaesthetic anyway (I'm very sensitive to General) mean that I'm at even greater risk. They reckon the whole thing's going to die sometime in the next few months at which point they'll have no choice, but I'm working as hard as I can on the weight loss before that happens. 21kg down, 14kg to go!

Currently, it's not vital - otherwise they would have done it by now. If there's a deterioration in her condition, I'm sure Zippy would be seen and admitted into hospital. +1. This is entirely about surgical risk. If a patient wants a routine operation but there's a 50% chance of dying, would you operate? What if the risks were changed to 5%? Anaesthetic complications are another lot of risks to consider and are completely different to the surgical risks. That's mighty impressive!

They did say that if things stop just being niggly and start getting properly bad (which I'm crossing my fingers this isn't evidence of) then they'll do it regardless. I'm hoping to get to the dealine before that though 'cos I'll have enough troble with the anaesthetic as it is. Thanks, it's proving to be a hard slog, but every episode of pain like this helps to focus the mind and the willpower!

I know its yorkshire where they cant say the letter H but does any english know what part of england that cant say the letter R? my old childminders ex husband unfortunatly had this accent, whenever he tried to say "car" he says "KAAAH" which got me quite irritable and wanted to punch him. Not the nicest of accents but im curious where its from
