Hmm... That Apple TV problem is also happening to my dads one. But it's the small black Apple TV. Not sure which version though.

I haven't plugged mine in for months. The fact that it cannot be turned off is a major design flaw - instead of turning off or going into stand-by mode, the original Apple TV just turns off the video output, the disk drive still spins and the motherboard and processor still draw the same amount of power as they do when the device is 'on'.

I have the little black box one. Didn't use it for ages then someone told me Netflix was on it so now use it regularly in the bedroom and very impressed with it.

Have also used it for YouTube and films from my own library.
