I was reading an interview with Mila Kunis the other day, thanks to an unrelated post from this forum to a news site leading to me clicking on other news. Apparently they're quite good friends, and I confess I was rather taken with Mila. She said the ballet training nearly killed her and her casting was pretty much a string of randomness. I wouldn't usually watch "this kind of stuff" - but I find attractive girls are attractive to me. NP was the greatest attraction in the Star Wars series and Mars Attacks, so I have some hope for this film too.

MirrorsThis 2008 movie stars Kiefer Sutherland as Ben Carson, a damaged ex-NYPD officer whose involvement in an incident in which he killed a fellow officer has lead to his needing a job to make ends meet. He takes the post of night watchman at the Mayflower, a large department store ruined by fire several years ago. While making his nightly rounds he starts to see things in the mirrors that line the massive rooms that can't really be happening but the hallucinations start to obsess him with grim consequences for himself and his family. Would you take a night watchman's job here? This film is so close to being a horror classic. Based on a Korean film 'Into The Mirror,' the first half is very effective and tense as Ben patrols the fire-damaged department store with only his torch for illumination. There are some great shocks and suspenseful moments and the film only starts to come off the rails a little in the second half when an explanation is sought as to why the various phenomena are occurring. Mirrors didn't get (m)any good reviews on its release and although I can see why, I think it is seriously underrated. Directed by Alexandre Aja in his usual stylish and brutal manner it's a good modern horror movie. 7.5 out of 10 (would have been 8.5 if the power of the first half had been maintained).

Transformers: DSoM
Good: excellent CGI, action and bangs. The 3D didn't give me a headache and this is the first time. Better than the second film (probably equivocal to the first) Bad: some plot points, some of the acting, far too long (2h50m) , Rosie H-W
*****SPOILERS*****
The plot was a bit weak - some of the "twists" were obvious, others not so. Overall, it still has you rooting for the Autobots. Some of the set pieces IMO were crap, specifically the bit where they're in the skyscraper and it tips over.
Rosie H-W. The single thing I hated about this film. Fox was far more foxier IMO. She just doesn't make a suitable/believable match for LeBouf the way Fox did. Her acting was horrendously crap. She just doesn't cut the mustard. Every other actor was worthy of an Oscar in comparison! She either had a trout pout or she extended the lip liner thing to go way above her upper lip. Ruined the look of her face and it was the only thing I could concentrate on whenever she was on screen!
LeBouf is far, far better and more convincing than in the first two films. I almost actually cared for what happened and what he actually did.
The robots were awesome. In some scenes, the CGI was convincingly real. In others, not as much but still better than the first film. The detail was there in the explosions etc and there weren't so many characters that you were lost as to who was who! The 3D wasn't OTT in-your-face and I wonder if this is why I didn't get a headache. Every other 3D film has induced a headache and the 3D was OTT all the way through. Toy Story 3 was a nightmare for me.
I think the ending could have been a tad better but otherwise a reasonable way to end the trilogy (presumed, gien LeBouf has said no to any more).
Rating: 8/10. Would have been a 9/10 if they had kept Fox.
*****END OF SPOILERS*****

2h 50m. So that will be 5 minutes of acting and the remainder as explosions then.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

With any luck. I don't go to see Transformers for an insightful examination of the human existence. I want to see giant robots blowing [LIFTED] up. And maybe a pretty girl. Don't be confused about what this film's all about. If I'm eating in KFC, I don't expect a waiter and silver service...

I'm not saying whether it is a good or bad thing, just how it is.

I think that reviewers complained that the final battle lasted for more than an hour.

Just sat through The Human Centipede.
I know I was warned earlier but thought I'd just see for myself. It was crap.

It's a bad thing, Transformers is [LIFTED] cinema, no redeeming qualities, the first one was bearable for being an insight into a kids' craze I wasn't familiar with, those who find the sequels "harmless fun" I seriously have issues with.

The first film if they'd given it more pace and ditched a couple of annoying characters (the little infiltration Decepticon and the full-on stereotypes) could have been a four star film, instead of three. Part two was just an insult to human kind, it really was that retarded. Haven't seen part three and sure as hell won't be paying to do so going by the reviews...

The Transformers craze passed me by (slightly too old) so although I had a basic idea what it was all about I saw the first film without many preconceptions other than it was pretty much aimed at 10 year old kids. Though the FX were impressive, the story telling was muddled and confusing especially in the big brawl at the end. I couldn't tell the robots apart much of the time so there's no excitement or tension. Haven't bothered with the second and the 3rd has an impressive trailer but again it is all FX and that seems to be it. Still, it's not aimed at me and I doubt it could be as disappointing as, say, The Phantom Menace.

I agree that apart from Bumblebee, Optimus and Megatron, the others were difficult to distinguish especially in battle sequences.
In the third film, there's a four-way stand off and I couldn't tell who was who!

You've pretty much guaranteed I'll never watch it now, and that's not a complaint

Sorry. Should I have put a spoiler alert on it? Didn't think it was much of a giveaway. Do you wish me to re-edit.
