I was tempted to go home at 10am. What's my retirement date again?? Knowing my luck I'll get there then they'll up the retirement age to 80 or something.

+1. Although it should be more like I went to the Weston Super Mare beach race this weekend. The main race never got going. There was a huge (and I mean huge, around a hundred riders went down, but not all of them got back up) crash at the beginning of the race, on the main straight. Me and my dad held back from going up the straight as soon as they started the race, as drizzle and standing water on the sand meant that visability was down to feet. Not good at 100mph. The race was red-flagged (stopped) straight after the accident, and we'd just about managed half a lap. Ambulance crews were called in. 20 people were hospitalized (with about 12 or so of these having serious injuries), 2 people in ICU and apparently a 16 year old lad died due to being hit by a bike doing 85mph. Although the last one is speculation and rumour at the moment, a person posted on a motocross forum which I go on confirming this. He was a nurse's brother. I really do hope the last one does turn out to be untrue. What a awful way to go. I'm fine, as we held back, saw the crash happen and kinda swerved round it, but seeing all those people laid out, screaming in pain on the floor, and bikes just strewn everywhere is a stark reminder of just how dangerous this sport is. Condolences to all the familes out there that have relatives in this condition.

Yeah, I read about that, bit of a shame really. Didn't something like 30 bikes go down?

Woah! That is pretty awful! I'm glad you are okay.
My condolences and best wishes to all injured and their friends and family.

I've driven on that beach. I think it's the only beach in UK where you can drive on the beach (correct me if I'm wrong). Looks to me like the conditions were appalling. Why did they let the race go ahead? Such a shame people were injured. I hope everyone makes a speedy recovery. C

How's this for random... I was going through some of my dads papers last night, and found his wedding certificate. It's not something that was ever discussed, (it's one of those things that just didn't seem mentioning) but I discovered that my dad had a middle name! 40 years old, and I didn't know that he was actually called Alfred John Vella! Well, there you go...

Dilemma: I've finished the work I'm doing, and can't start the next bit until tomorrow, but want to earn the flexi. Should I stay or should I go?
