I am almost certain that any dodgy comments have been passed before allowing them on air in order to make sure any possible litigation compensation falls within their budget.

That's the thing - their producer should have had a look at the script and said 'I don't think so', and the cut that aired will have been approved as well. So it's not just hamster's fault, but a total failure by the producers to do their jobs.

Yes but americans make jokes about us all the time. I doubt that the on air apology they will give will be anything like the Ambassador expects.

I'm hoping they get away with it, simply because Top Gear is one of the very few places that isn't completely strangled by political correctness. Yes, they occasionally overstep the mark but, on the whole, they manage to be entertaining.

Lets not forget, as mentioned above, this is a pre-recorded show that went to air after going through committee.

I watched the repeat on Monday or Tuesday, can't remember which, and the comments were still in there - and that was after the first complaint was made by the Mexican Ambassador. I think the BBC deliberately kept it in to get more exposure, after all it's more publicity for the show. To be fair, they've said far worse things about the Germans and French and you don't see those nations kicking up a stink. Personally, I found it funny - so what if it's not PC, it's one of the few places that isn't now? I think they usually know where to draw the line, maybe they were actually stood on that line, but I don't think they crossed over it.

They should watch Al Murray's The Pub Landlord Live - if they think Clarkson & Co are ignorant bigots, that'll really blow their mind!

Part of my problem with it was the length of time the 'abuse' went on for... I dunno, I normally laugh or smile when it's a one-off cheap shot ('the BMW sat-nav only goes to Poland'), but the Mexican comments just didn't sit too well with me

I thought that they were outdated stereotypes anyway. That said they have insulted quite a few groups and this is no different. The fact that they had the Aussie Top Gear presenters arrive in a prison truck was probably more offensive. Though the aussies did give a lot back in terms of abuse. Should I complain about that?
