Foreign sex offender wins damages

Good

Agreed. There seems to be massive incompetence throughout the attempts to deport him. The process should have been completed while he was in custody and so he could have been deported on release. The fact that he was illegally detained while they were trying to deport him was wrong and that was why he should have got an award for damages. Blame the system not the person. This could be applicable to anyone who the government decides they do not like.

^ I saw that recently and it looked deliberate to me.

Perhaps we could find some more underage girls for him to rape so that he knows we're very very very sorry.

It does. Why would anyone play with a lighter at petrol station anyway? The fact that the flame seemed to get to her after the initial ignition also is suspicious.

Having watched that video, how is anything less than attempted murder being considered as an option?

Perhaps we should rate our society's duty to protect human rights according the Daily Mail Sliding Scale of Pale Male Veil and Fail Assail (TM)

After all, he is a sex offender and black and Muslim so surely he deserves fewer rights than the rest of us?

He probably didn't even cry when Diana died ...

Playing devil's advocate for a second, there's a large portion of the population who think its perfectly acceptable if sex offenders should have less rights than people who haven't committed such grave offences and in reality most criminals do have fewer rights than the rest of us - they don't (for example) have the right to freedom of movement or association. We withdraw rights that the rest of us have as punishment for a crime, it's just a question of to what degree we do that - from next to none (suspended sentences) to the most extreme (corporal punishment).

Personally, I thinks we have the balance about right in most cases, which I why I don't really have a problem with the judgement that has been made. However, we live in a democracy, and that can change within the laws we have. It's a far from perfect system but as the saying goes it's better than all the other ones we've tried.

Also I think his race and religion are red herrings. If the story had been about a white catholic sex offender, the headlines would have been pretty much as bad. I remember a proper tabloid furore about a convicted rapist who, mid-sentence, won several million on the national lottery. He wasn't black or a muslim, but they properly went to town on him.

Took today off. So far, have achieved none of the tasks I'd planned. This included:

- washing my show alloys and take them into storage (it's raining)
- replacing the broken lightbulb socket in one of the bedrooms (can't find the socket I bought, nor the replacement for it either!)
- go to the gym (I still have a stinking cold that started a week ago)

Tasks for the rest of today:

- sort track day insurance (for ferrari experience)
- sort documents for above track day
- sort camera out so it's ready for track day

Now in theory those tasks should take me 30 mins to sort out. The way things are going, it wouldn't surprise me if it took 3 hours.

Jumbo jet stuck at wrong airport.... CLICKY

Quote:
A Boeing 747 Dreamlifter cargo plane may be stuck at a minor airport in Kansas for some time after it apparently landed there by mistake.

The giant cargo jet was heading for McConnell air force base in Wichita but instead touched down at nearby Colonel James Jabara airport.

Local media report that the jet may be too large to take off from Jabara's 1,860m (6,100ft) runway.

Boeing is sending a tug to the airport to turn the plane around, reports say.

The cargo plane normally requires a runway of 2,780m (9,119ft) to take off at maximum weight, it says, and the tug dispatched to the airport to turn the jumbo around has broken down en route.

They could always empty the plane and it would probably get out without much problem. Though it might be expensive to move its contents on a low loader.

I was once in a 747 from london to Hong Kong via Paris where it would pick up most of its passengers. That thing leap into the air after what seemed like 100 yards.

I was in a little Dash 7 flying from London City Airport to Brussels and it seemed to climb much more than any other aircraft I have been in.
