That is all.

Yes and no. My TV was off pretty much all day, deliberately to avoid it, and I can cope with that. However, I'd be very curious to know just how much was spent on it, given the apparently massive outlay of staff the BBC used for. It all costs money and that will inevitably come out of the budget of other programs.

I doubt that it was as much as you might expect. They would be using the BBC own outside broadcast units which would be idle otherwise, and it also maintains skills for many technicians for other such events, so could be written off to training rather than be deducted from other programs budgets.

I have just clicked refresh many, many times in order to see paulzolo's signature, (the cans) change... I'm so glad that I didn't notice them changing whilst in the office or I would not have done any work at all...

IIRC, the tech/gear production side of the BBC was spun off into it's own entity a few years ago, to raise cash being hired by other firms. Hence, they'd have been hiring the rigs and moving money about from the BBC to what is essentially a separate company.
As I say, I'm hazy on it, but I've half a feeling that's what happened.

found a '00 Intel Celeron Mobile in a laptop at work experience today. the SSPEC is SL43R, it uses a PGA495 socket, runs at 500MHz, has 128kB of onboard cache and has a 100MHz FSB. it was worth so little on ebay, they let me take it home :D anyway, i was thinking about seeing if there were any motherboards with that socket rocking around, see if i could get it working rather than cursing it to the spares draw. i know there are a lot of veteran computer enthusiasts on this forum, do any of you know where i could possibly acquire something like that?

they also had a Radeon 9000 series, which came out of a computer with what i think was a PGA370 socket (the heatsink fan was still on) if they still have it next week, imma buy it off them and put it in the SocketA AthlonXP computer we have in the spare room :)

Knowing the government penchant for privatising everything then I suspect that it will have been sold off.

Apparently I am now the QA Manager at work

Can't see my role changing, or my salary unfortunately. So it appears to be pretty much just title only

A sign of the times I am afraid. Nice flashy job title but no money.

I'm now the proud owner of a Synology DS211J and a 2TB Western Digital hard drive to go in it. :P

No more switching between PC's to find the files I want.

I'd be interested in your thoughts, once you've set it up and had a play. I know it's had great reviews, but it's nice to get the opinion of someone who has shelled out their own hard earned for it.

There is a competition to design the new Euro.

http://www.eurocoin-competition.eu/es/submit-your-design

I've tried language variations for Spanish, French and German but the en for English results in 404. :P

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

It's still setting up now. Not quite as automated as I'd like, but still simple enough.

Massive solar flare on it's way

Quote:
We saw the initial flare occurring and it wasn't that big but then the eruption associated with it -- we got energy particle radiation flowing in and we got a big coronal mass injection.

*sigh*
