It wasn't a funeral, it was a memorial service and was a celebration of his life. People were dancing and singing all the way through it so it's a total non-story!
The tale behind it is here: http://blogs.afp.com/correspondent/?post%2FSelfie

There was never any point to Facebook. There is no point to Facebook. It's just there. :|

Like any of the other 'social' sites, really.
It's still pretty useful for me.
#1 - It's not Google.
#2 - I'm currently coordinating a short film with people and it's really handy rather than checking emails etc.
#3 - I'm cripplingly lazy when it comes to dates, so being reminded of events and birthdays is a big plus.
#4 - See #1.

It's also easier then using emails to keep in touch with family, especially those who live abroad.

I find email much easier. I've had my appointments in my calendar for years and my pc or phone always chimed to let me know... When I was on Facebook, i'd check it about once a month, whilst I get push notification from email.

Sure, it does work for some people. I think it depends on what you use it for.

As far as I'm concerned, I left Facebook a couple of years ago and didn't miss it. I'm only back there because, like Royston Vasey, "you'll never leave" and I've started a business page (finding my supposedly deleted profile still intact  ). I've futzed around with Google+, but I fell out of love with it like Facebook. It's still a million light years better than FB, because I've made new friends there which I'd never have found on FB. It's also better at the interaction stuff, too.

If social media is all about getting together and organising stuff, then it's not working for me very well. :|

Sister-in-law fail

'Got a card today saying, Dear Sarah, Lev, James and baby'

He's 15 months old for [LIFTED] sake. How hard would it be to phone your mother and ask his name if you wanted to send a card?
Silly bitch.

I lost my gym card. Last visited gym on Tues. Put card into wallet and then didn't notice until Weds lunch time when I went to sort out a cheque that had been written last year and I'd forgotten to cash. I would normally have gone to gym yesterday but didn't so planned to go today. Stopped off at the local petrol station which is where I stopped on Weds morn. No sign of a card. Already rang gym and not handed in. So planned to go straight to gym but realised on the way that I'd left my bag at home (when i was searching for said card) and forgot to put it back.

Wasted journey and wasted time.

Debating now whether to go to gym or do the 101 things that need doing around the house. Will go tomorrow anyway.

Child abuse victims walk out of hearing after lawyer quotes Bible

Quote:
Peter Gray, representing the church's Truth, Justice and Healing Council began his opening statement by quoting a passage from the gospel of Mark, prompting cries of shock and disgust in the hearing room.

"Many will remember, from their own childhoods, the ageless words from the gospel of Mark," said Gray.

"Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such of these that the kingdom of God belongs."

Staggering, just staggering.

If it had been followed by the sentence "We completely failed in this area" or words to that effect, then I'd have said it would have been appropriate I think, even if not what that part of the hearing was about. However, whilst not expressly stated in the article, it would very much appear that this was not the tone taken with that passage.

Two can play at that game, Mr Gray.

If any of you put a stumbling-block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Matthew 18:6

Quote:
The word of the Lord came to me: Mortal, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel: prophesy, and say to them—to the shepherds: Thus says the Lord God: Ah, you shepherds of Israel who have been feeding yourselves! Should not shepherds feed the sheep? You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fatlings; but you do not feed the sheep. You have not strengthened the weak, you have not healed the sick, you have not bound up the injured, you have not brought back the strayed, you have not sought the lost, but with force and harshness you have ruled them. So they were scattered, because there was no shepherd; and scattered, they became food for all the wild animals. My sheep were scattered, they wandered over all the mountains and on every high hill; my sheep were scattered over all the face of the earth, with no one to search or seek for them.

Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: As I live, says the Lord God, because my sheep have become a prey, and my sheep have become food for all the wild animals, since there was no shepherd; and because my shepherds have not searched for my sheep, but the shepherds have fed themselves, and have not fed my sheep; therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the Lord: Thus says the Lord God, I am against the shepherds; and I will demand my sheep at their hand, and put a stop to their feeding the sheep; no longer shall the shepherds feed themselves. I will rescue my sheep from their mouths, so that they may not be food for them.
Ezekiel 34: 1-10

Quote:
For if we wilfully persist in sin after having received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful prospect of judgement, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has violated the law of Moses dies without mercy ‘on the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by those who have spurned the Son of God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which they were sanctified, and outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know the one who said, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay.’ And again, ‘The Lord will judge his people.’ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
Hebrews 10: 24-31

Quote:
If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die’, and you give them no warning, and do not speak to warn the wicked from their wicked way, in order to save their life, those wicked persons shall die for their iniquity; but their blood I will require at your hand.
Ezekiel 3: 18

Quote:
Therefore you have no excuse, whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgement on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, are doing the very same things. You say,* ‘We know that God’s judgement on those who do such things is in accordance with truth.’ Do you imagine, whoever you are, that when you judge those who do such things and yet do them yourself, you will escape the judgement of God? Or do you despise the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience? Do you not realize that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But by your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath, when God’s righteous judgement will be revealed. For he will repay according to each one’s deeds: to those who by patiently doing good seek for glory and honour and immortality, he will give eternal life; while for those who are self-seeking and who obey not the truth but wickedness, there will be wrath and fury.
Romans 2: 1-8
