Not really but the list was limited to 20 people, so I'd imagine stock levels won't be brilliant. It did look like the person above me had put two numbers down, so maybe they were buying two phones. Go in and ask, can't do any harm. May not be company policy though, may just be something the manager of that branch had decided to do.

That "ultimate" guide only covers a 12 month period. If you get the phone on a contract over 24 months through Vodafone on a £30 a month tariff then it costs about the same as the 12 month things they have detailed on that website. Meaning that per 12 months it's about half the price. OOPS, I meant 24 months contract. Sorry

If you can get a shorter contract and a second sim only deal cheaper than the longer contract without a loss of call time then go for it. Though the advantages such as cheaper handset price can make up for a longer contract. It means you will have to work out the Total cost of ownership for the period you want. As only two operators have disclosed their prices it is tough to decide either way. It might be best to wait till all the operators have announced their terms and prices and decide then. I suspect that Tesco will be the last to announce anything so will wait till then to decide

Yeah I know how it can work out cheaper on a shorter contract, but nobody is offering a 12 month contract this time around, are they? Unless you go for the SIM only deal in the first place, which means spending £500 upfront on the phone.

Well... Going for the cheapest tariffs with unlimited texts or £20 a month PAYG going by the recommendation from the website. Phone price (32GB) + Monthly 12 months PAYG vs 24 months contract. Vodafone: PAYG: £599 + £20 x 12 = £839 Contract: £269 + £30 x 24 = £989 (i.e. £494.50 per 12 months) O2: PAYG: £839 Contract: £279 + £30 x 24 = £999 (i.e. £499.50 per 12 months) Orange: PAYG: £570 + £20 x 12 = £810 Contract: £219 + £35 x 24 = £1059 (i.e. £529.50 per 12 months) Now, unless you are really desperate to fork out another £600 ish for the iPhone 5 when it comes out in a year then it makes a lot more sense to get the phone on a contract over 24 months. By that time anyway the iPhone 4 will still be worth a quite bit as an exchange (looking at the current 3G resale value) and the iPhone 6 will be out.

Vodafone, Orange and O2 have all announced their prices up to today. Although O2 have said that they are for existing customers only.

There is a shortage of iPhone 4 to be sure. I don't know how but Apple seem to have grossly underestimated demand. Again.

I don't think that is true at all. They're simply following the most profitable business model. Apple product sales are a bit like album sales. There's a big demand when a new one comes out, quickly tailing off to a moderate level and then reducing to almost nothing when the next release comes out. They have several options: 1. Build 10 factories to quickly satisfy demand for the first month, and then close 9 of them when sales level off. That's a massive waste of manufacturing investment. 2. Build one factory and delay release until they have stock-piled enough items to satisfy the rush in the first month. That's also wasteful of resources, and would put them behind on the technological front. 3. Build one factory, release while stocks are still low, let demand exceed supply and enjoy the profit generated by high prices without excessive manufacturing overheads. What would you do?

The issue in production (from reading articles online) appears to be in the lack of stock with regards to the high res screen, which is something they don't produce (IIRC Samsung do)

You need to add a second years PAYG to all the contracts to compare properly. and when comparing an 18month contract you will need to add six months of PAYG. Unless you compare them on a similar basis you will be opting for the PAYG option.

Easy to do, just add another £240 onto each PAYG option. Doesn't make any difference though, contract is still cheaper.

Yes I was actually looking at the Tesco 12 month contract but if the longer contract suits me better then that is what I will possibly go for.
