This is, in fact, the something new that I learnt yesterday. That my car, which I bought new in 2006 has a rear fog light.

IIRC all cars from around 1979/1980 onwards had to have one fitted as mandatory.

Something I'd never thought about. Doesn't have front fogs so I figured it didn't have rears and didn't give it a second thought.

Whilst we're at it, what are the extra lights on the front of the car lower down and smaller than the headlights, actually for?

You mean the fog lights? They're brighter and more focussed than headlights and lower down to help illuminate the road surface. It's also illegal to have them turned on when visibility is greater than 100m. I've seen people driving in the dark with no headlights and only fog lights on. I hate them.

They also (or used to) light out to the side, as opposed to into the distance, so that you can see the side of the road or the middle line, when visibility in front of you is very poor. Supposed to help you orientate yourself.

I've never had a car with those lights, but the idiot following me on the M6 last night did It was like driving in front of a bloody lighthouse!

Some cars have front fog lights. Some don't. Some have DRLs which are basically headlights that are designed to be on constantly. Sometimes they're in the position fog lights would be. I've also seen foglights being used by manufacturers as cornering lights, so if you turn left, for example, the left foglight turns on to illuminate the left kerb.

Just watching the pilot episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. The twins were called Matthew and Gregory and not Michael and Geoffrey as they were in the rest of the series.

For the physical keys presumably? At least that's why I chose my old Sony hybrid thingy.
