At least the music isn't like that they used at the end of Tom Baker's tenure and onwards which seemed to have come from the same mindset as that used in Look and Read.

I actually meant that the Doctors face reminds me of Colin Baker slightly. I think that the shimmery star effect backlighting the hair for that fraction of a second does it. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

Well, the 'love story' element was never the driving focus of the story (at least not the alien love story) as such I think it was quite fitting that it was treated to closure, but yeah, it did seem rather left to the dying moments then dealt with in a cursory manner. I can only hope that all these rather brief endings are going to be somehow utilised in some way, but we are rapidly approaching the end of the season so I dunno what's going to happen, if anything. I have always disliked any story which is resolved by <spoiler> going back in time and fixing it</spoiler> Which is a shame, because it was really rather good until then, with the leak soup and everything. It was also nice to see some props from long ago in the old girl. I didn't notice somehow, despite being quite a big fan back in the days. It's amused me over the last few years that the folks choosing the music must be the same age as me. Twenty years ago I would never have recognised a thing.

THIS POST IS A BIT SPOILERY. Another chance to show the crack in time that was present though Matt Smith's first series. OK, it was vertical this time, but harking back to past adventures. As the TARDIS was re-writing itself, it seems to make sense that time gets reshaped too. Also, the viewer is expecting no one to remember events in that time loop. I am somehow thinking that Clara remembers what she saw the that book, and it will come back to bite her or the Doctor. I didn't notice somehow, despite being quite a big fan back in the days. It's amused me over the last few years that the folks choosing the music must be the same age as me. Twenty years ago I would never have recognised a thing.[/quote] I expect that a lot of the production team are about my/your age. I want to see how they handle Clara next week. Strax etc. will no doubt recognise her? Oh, FYI, Fire Woman follows Sun King on the Cult's album Sonic Temple. Just in case that has meaning. Also pleased to see JLC in proximity to a typewriter in this episode too. If I ever go to a Sci Fi convention where she is, I may get her to autograph my Remington.

 | | | | Quote: Science confirms ‘Doctor Who-type world, Gallifrey’
By Mathew Wace Peck Aug 30, 2012 in Science
NASA has confirmed the existence of a real-universe analogue of Gallifrey, the fictional Time Lord planet that features in the BBC science-fiction drama series, Doctor Who. According to an article in the Register, NASA came across what it calls a “transiting circumbinary multi-planet system” – in layman’s speak, “two worlds orbiting two suns” – using its Kepler planet-hunting telescope, and the Register likens to “Doctor Who’s Time Lord homeworld [of] Gallifrey – or alternatively the luxury-planet-builders’ planet Magrathea [from] The Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy”! The Register reports the lead author of the study, Jerome Orosz – associate professor of astronomy at San Diego State University – as saying, “Each planet transits over the primary star, giving unambiguous evidence that the planets are real.” Digital Journal's Andrew Moran first reported on the discovery in January of this year, but the full study report has now been accepted by and published in Science. The new system, which has been named Kepler 47, has two stars circling each other every 7.5 days. One of them is similar in size to our sun, whereas the other is approximately one third its size. The inner planet – Kepler-47b – is three times the size of our world, making it the smallest known transiting circumbinary planet, and it orbits the stars every 49 days. The second – Kepler-47c – lies in the habitable zone around the two suns. The Register goes on to state that Kepler-47c is “slightly larger than Uranus and circles its stars every 303 days, making it the longest transiting planet currently known. The whole system lies about 5,000 light years away in the Cygnus constellation”. The full report of NASA's twin-system discovery is published in Science. Fictional worlds The fictional Time Lord planet of Gallifrey resides in a binary star system within the constellation of Kasterborous. Although Doctor Who began in 1963, the name of the Doctor’s home planet was not revealed until his second regeneration in the ten-part story The War Games (1969). Since then, exiled from his own people, the Doctor has returned to Gallifrey on only a few occasions – The Deadly Assassin (1976) The Invasion of Time (1978), Arc of Infinity (1983) and The Five Doctors (1983). During the Time War, Gallifrey was time-locked and has only featured fully once since 2005, in David Tennant’s swansong as the Doctor, The End of Time (2010). | | | | |

Judging by the clip I saw of Saturday's episode, there may be a Peter Davison theme. Mention of a "gobby Australian" and the words "brave heart, Clara" were uttered by the erstwhile TARDS pilot.

It was a fun episode. Kind of feel that it's there to lighten the mood a tad.

I found it a bit... well, I didn't really think the story held together all that well. Lots of things happening one after the other but I didn't necessarily feel there was much linking them together. I do like the recurring supporting characters though. And the whole steampunk vibe was very much my thing. And I did like the 'Thomas Thomas' gag.
Not so sure about next week's though. Has having screamy, irritating kids tagging along ever been a good idea?
