I hope so. It made the top 10 list in the Telegraph when I was doing research. I didn't have enough notice for the Savoy or the Ritz although we may pop in to the Ritz for a drink as we'll be in the area. I went to the Savoy 6 years ago and that was lovely. Blokey has never been for tea so it will all be new to him :)

when I was in catering college ( early 80's ) at Westminster we used to take it in turns to do afternoon tea for our little group in the hotel we were based in.
I think we covered most of them,
Savoy
Ritz
Claridges
Mayfair
Grosvenor house
Hilton Park lane
and um Clarence house .........
it was the only way we could afford to look around.

Very nice it was too. And they gave us a posh box full of goodies to take home.

We bought my parents afternoon tea at the Ritz for a Christmas present this year. I think they're going in July.

How was the jam? I remember it being a bit thin when we went.

I'm eating garlic croutons. I don't advise standing nearby :S

Yeah it was a bit runny but they described it as preserve rather than jam. Was very nice though. Did you get a box of goodies to take away when you went? They didn't seem to do it for everyone.

My egg and bacon pie rose (as in puffed up, not bloomed, although that would be more poetic) like a soufflé. They sometimes rise a bit, but they usually fall again. Seriously - it's tall in the middle by about 400% the way that awkward Yorkshire pudding sometimes goes.

I just thought - maybe it's a steam bubble trapped under the pastry being sustained by some freak chemical reaction. Or perhaps one of the eggs was off and there's a hydrogen sulphide monster hiding inside.

I'm scared to cut it now, should it explode in my face.

I can't even work out what that is, except the pudding which seems overly complex: Angel's Delight with burned fruit, short bread and chocolate?

Starter
Lobster tail, accompanied by compressed fennel, fennel puree and shavings, dressed with an orange gel and beurre blanc, and Lobster oil

Main
Roast pork belly, pork tenderloin and a scotch egg (made of black pudding and quail's egg), served with a pomme puree, caramelised shallots and two sauces - apple and a honey mustard

Dessert
Vanilla chocolate panna cotta topped with a tempered bitter chocolate tuile with caramelised pears and a trio of hazelnut crumble biscuits
