I've heard of someone growing marijuana inside their computer case. Apparently worked quite well until it got sucked into the CPU HSF.

I believe so.  Not sure how it avoided the graphics card, but to the best of my knowledge it grew to the stage where it got sucked into the HSF, jammed it and cooked the CPU. That said, I imagine if you're growing enough marijuana inside your rig to kill the CPU, you're growing enough to make replacing the CPU a relatively painless process.
