No, actually I think you'll find that all those chains have different policies in foreign nations like England. Only in the glory land of scotland do they accept the Euro (obviously).

I could see NI favoring the Euro in the sense that we'd do very well out of our border with the Republic as a result, but not actually adopting it. I do know of shops here that take the Euro, especially along said border...

You are both right. The problem is that UK's economy is very different to Europe's. It is ok for countries like Germany, France, Italy and Spain to have euro because they are similar. For example UK is much more sensitive to changes in interest rate as bigger proportion of people have variable interest rate mortgages. Also work force is much more flexible. UK will do fine with pound as long as those retards that are running the economy right now are removed and are never allowed to be in charge of anything as complex as a bicycle ever again.

Well I voted yes. The euro seperates the government from the interest rate setting, unlike over here where the government changes it at will (even with a seperate bank of england. Also the main target of the interest rates in europe is stable prices and currency value as opposed to economic growth being in the equation. Easy to travell. Will overtake the dollar as a No1 reserve currency. Noticed how our new £20 notes are looking alarmingly like 20 euros http://www.germstore.com/blogdial/20.jpghttp://www.graffiteuro.com/img/notes/20 ... 9F.600.pngOur pounds will soon be bi metalic (exactly like the euros) http://www.harrimantravelbooks.com/2_Euro_coin.jpghttp://farm3.static.flickr.com/2280/240 ... 759310.jpgSo its pretty much creeping in on us anyway.

The pound and euro are nearly worth the same now. Once the pound has dropped in value as it is doing already and reaches parity, then it would be a good idea to join Europe as there would be no calculations needed to prevent the same ripoff that happened when we went decimal. Only the sign in front of the number need change not the actual price of an article.

Actually growth in GDP isn't the BoE's remit, they main reason they change interest rates to meet inflation targets.

Euro coins and notes are absolutely horrible to handle, the coins especially; you nearly feel like you should bite them to make sure they're real

I understand that but the government has more contol so when growth may be in decline interest rates will be cut regardless of there being a surge in inflation.

I got on the bus today and I noticed, to my great surprise, that they accept euros! Not as crazy as it sounds though I suppose, we are a tourist town. *shrug*

Seems your town is in another universe compared to Reading. In Reading they don't even give you the change back. You either give exact amount or they keep everything you gave them. So if you are desperate you might end up paying £5 for £1.70 fare. Welcome to Reading, the place where in 21st century you won't get the change back for bus fare and they've never heard of smart cards
