I voted at 11:30 this morning before I went to work. As I said, I voted Independent for the local and Lib Dem for the European.

As I said in one of the other threads, I voted last week by post. At least the papers arrived on time. On a previous occasion, my postal vote wasn't counted because I didn't receive it until too late. Presumably, if voting was compulsory then I'd have been shot in the face by a fascist freedom enforcer?

I think making voting compulsory would just lead to a 'Jeremy Kyle-style' majority electorate - you know, Sun readers On a serious note, you'll get nothing but resentment from me if I'm forced to do something, and it just sounds like something Mugabe would've been fond off. Oh, that's right, he kinda was...

Do you mean Nick Griffin? Nick Clegg is leader of the Lib Dems…

Forums, Twitter - I have seen many, many people pushing voting today. I have been doing my bit - and I am noticing my Tweet being re-tweeted by people who feel the same. I’ll quote one from a friend who I think nails it quite succinctly: The celebrations of the 65th anniversary of D-Day is just around the corner. It was the start of a major push against fascism in Europe, and without that action, we would very likely not be able to vote or discuss political ideas. We certainly would not be able to criticise our leaders so freely. Voting is a right handed down to us by previous generations. It is also a duty. Failing to vote merely strengthens the hands of those who would take that right from us. So get out and vote. Keep the maniacs out of power. You only have a few more hours until the polling stations close.

I went independent in the local (because I think Cornwall Council's a shambles and a waste of space and I don't trust any of the "names" to do anything for me). For Europe, I went Mebyon Kernow! Never done that before, but again, I don't trust the big three, nor do I give a crap really. But at least they're local. I did consider spoiling my ballot paper (as a few friends have), but decided it won't lead to political reform so it's a waste of time.

Asking the doorsteppers 'Are you local?' in a shrill voice would have been great fun

Voted at about 7:30 this morning. I think I was the 6th or 7th person to vote at the polling station. The size of the ballot paper was a bit alarming especially when several of the parties seemed to be essentially the same anti-Europe lot (UKIP rather BNP mind). Shame there was no proportional representation in this election, it makes things much more interesting. If I was in charge I certainly wouldn't force people to vote but I would make every non vote count as one for the incumbent (i.e. Me), hence ensuring the longevity of my tyrannical regime as long as people were nice and lazy.

Yes, the ballot paper was unusually long. Everything from the Save the Ducks Party to the Everyone Must Paint Their Faces Green And Buy a Fiat Party. :/
