I'd be interested to see who you included in a list of "fanatics".

Ok, I don't have a problem with people using apple products, I actually don't care believe me or not.

What I have a problem with is when people post apple related stuff in TMP when we already have two sections for apple hardware and software. For me it is the same as when some religious freaks stop me in the street and tell me that I am a bad person because I don't believe in what they believe. I just makes me angry at first and hate them from then on.

Example: Why do we need os4.1 update news to have it's own thread in TMP? I just fail to see it but I am pretty sure that there will be more than enough people willing to explain it to me.

Now, it was made clear to me that people can post whatever they want in TMP and I can't do anything about it and I do understand that (reluctantly). However nobody else does it. You don't see linux or pc threads in TMP. You don't see networking issues posted here. If you get an odd hardware problem then it is moved swiftly into the hardware thread.

My point is: only apple users do that. Just because they can!!! This makes them different from other segments of the market and similar to jehova's witnesses...

In the case of the iOS thread, it was our very own pcernie who posted it. He's not one of your died-in-the-wool Appleistas, that's for certain.

I guess it could have been moved to perhaps the News forum, but since you're the only one who's complained I suppose it's just been left where it is. Since there are far more people who have iPhones or iPods than who use Apple computers, posting in TMP was acceptable, I think, rather than restricting it to the Apple forums.

There's nothing to stop anyone posting about Linux or whatever, if they feel it needs a wider coverage.

Which is exactly my point: They don't do it just because they can. If somebody wants to know about linux they can go into relevant section and they don't have to have it slapped in their face in TMP.

I posted that cos there's always an an interest in it one way or another, it was bound to go wildly off-topic (I'm all for that :D ), and it was a weird mixture of hardware/software/games/general interest :)

I agree with your point that Apple news is better off in other sections.

How about, rather than labeling anyone involved in the thread a fanatic, you just ask for the thread to be moved? ;)

Well, another way to look at it is you don't have to read it if it doesn't interest you.

I don't enter the football threads. I have no interest so I don't enter them.

I think we reached a point in this debate where woman's instincts have taken over, you become very defensive and start using irrational arguments.
I think we should leave it at that and agree not to agree.

Nick, "fundamental" was in reference to "I bagged a switcher" thread, not os 4.1 thread.

I don't judge people on what they use. I appreciate very much when people have balanced views and are not biased.
Big_D is a very good example, using all three platforms and not being biased towards any of them, at least in debates on this forum...

(You can't see, but I've actually crossed my arms, stamped my foot and tutted as well.)

Don't be so patronising.

Totally.

I'd been thinking about a whole other aspect of this discussion, but I simply can't be bothered to raise it now. I'm out of here unless someone needs me in an official capacity. You know how to find me.

Typical woman! How cruel of you to say it's all over in the way that it leaves me longing for more...

Errm, is iOS really a Mac topic at all?

Who uses the most iOS devices? Mac owners or PC owners?

There is a case for moving all news stories to the news board I suppose but that seems a little draconian. :?

Koli, you're attitude is no better - you're the Richard Dawkins of anti apple sentiment, ie, just as much of a fundamentalist yourself. Perhaps you're a closet apple lover?

I think that there are times when a story would interest a wider audience than just those with Macs. For example, Apple is being sued by Paul Allen for patent infringements, along with Google and a number of other companies outside of the Redmond area. Is this an Apple story, or one which has a wider reach?

I tend to post such stories in TMP or News because they are wider in scope and interest. You choose whether or not to read or respond.

If you are interested in a religeous perspective on Mac vs Windows, try Googling Umberto Eco on the subject - it's an old, but fascinating perspective on the debate.

I think that the majority of iOS users are also Windows users. Basically anyone with an iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad would qualify.

Maybe the Apple section needs a 3rd entry - iOS devices - so that the Windows using i-device users don't feel like a fish out of water around us fundamentalists?

Actually, I should tread carefully in this thread after my Dennis forum days. I remember my battles with Marklar quite well...

Just wanted to say, I agree with Heather. If there is a thread that doesn't interest me, such as a football thread, I don't bother reading it, life is too short.
