I think that the whole religion construct was very relevant millennia ago. No police but what better than a deity to make the people regulate themselves? We have progressed beyond that need now, with police and courts. Though it still has its merits in terms of population behaviour. God is an artificial construct but if a alien turned up being able to do things that we could not imagine we would call it God as well.
