I've been back to the UK a few times, especially during my mother's illness, but it is just too stressful to do on a regular basis, with all the rushing around, trying not to offen family members... Next time we do it, we'll probably chose one family member or chose somewhere in the middle and those that want to, can come and visit us.

I was going to say... sod all the rushing about, stay in one place and they can come and see you. Must admit I don't speak to half my family (who live around Southampton). Spent years visiting and traveling down there at the drop of a hat but did they ever come and see me? I think you know the answer.

As it stands I haven't spoken to my aunt for over 10 years as she refused to come to my wedding. She also refused to come to my Dad's graduation when she was actually in the next building in London on the day. At this stage in life if people are not willing to make the effort for me then I'm not wiling to make the effort for them.

I voted for Blighty, US or Europe. Would depend on family and money. Would love to live near my aunt in Florida but that may be a dream. Been to lots of places in Europe and I love it and my Mum is Belgian so I have family on the continent. Who knows what the rest of my life will bring?

:D

I have lived in the US. I was there for 4 years and I did love it. Being away from family was a huge strain though, we're all very close and having me living so far away was really tough particularly on my Mum and Sister. Red and I are toying with the idea of Oz, he lived there and loved it, but my family are still the sticking point. Perhaps when my folks die it'll be more of a reality, but at the moment I can't even consider it seriously.

Same with me. Family is the reason I'm still here. My Dad lives a couple of hours away anyway so he wouldn't miss me but Mum's on her own and 10 minutes up the road. I couldn't leave her now.

I would depending on circumstances. I have thought about the US, Canada, New Zealand or Scandinavia. I am have family in Sweden and the US plus I could cope there with my memory problems.

Best stick you on a remote island on your own. Then you'll only have to worry about your own stink! ;)

Were a large influx of money to arrive, I'd like to move to Arizona. Loved it there, but I think it is very difficult to move to the USA to live and work. Italy is wonderful but the bureaucracy is just chaotic there and the corruption is rife. Australia perhaps? I'd certainly emigrate if I could and at least try it.

Very tricky to get to live in Aus at the mo, even for a UK passport holder. Besides New Zealand is nicer; when it's not shaking anyway.

I voted Europe or southern hemisphere. I wouldn't live in the US again mostly because the INS (or homeland security as they now are) are a complete bunch of <insert your favourite term of abuse>. I'd live in Canada again though, no problem.

It is. Otherwise, I'd have done it already. The country has it's problems for sure. But I prefer theirs to ours and the pros make it IMO. I love Oli's idea of Japan. Haven't been but would love to go. However, I would feel disrespectful if I hadn't attempted to learn the language and that's a mammoth task. Perhaps a holiday is called for first.....

Europe is a large untapped continent that requires little or no paperwork to explore and so for that reason, I think it should be done. I've only been to France so far and I liked it, but as mentioned you need to earn a living and I have no plan for that right now.

I also put south of the equator. But I meant the tropics. Central and South America hold fascination for me, as does parts of North Africa. But like Snowy, I need to explore first.

Zippy, how did you do the US?

I have formulated my retirement plan.

I shall sell the house, buy a camper van, and tour the British Isles with my camera.

It's something to aim for, at least. I'm quite happy living in Blighty. It's a beautiful country, with lots of spectacular places to visit.

Perhaps, but I'd like to be able to make excursions to really spectacular places like this.

I took this photo so long ago that it was on actual film and not digital!

It is very pretty.

Cue Bratty's paranoid post about the 'face' on the far right. ;)

I totally understand your point, and while the UK may not have spectacular on the same scale as in that photo, it does still have spectacular,
