No, it doesn't … frozen FTW!

Not really missed it either.

I don't really use one either. It's used A) for re-heating stuff and B) only when there's too many people waiting to use the kitchen and I'm in a rush. Ideally I'd never use it. *awaits JJ*

I have lived without one, but since they cost less than a good bottle of scotch I don't see any reason to go without. I've not used mine today, but that's actually quite unusual. I think they're particularly useful if you're cooking for one, since they can struggle with family sized portions.

We even have one at work, which I mostly use to melt cheese and heat soup.

I use a microwave for reheating foods. They can certainly be more efficient for things like soup as they use less energy and there is less washing up.

Thinking about it I don't think I have actually ever cooked something in a microwave apart from scrambled eggs. I did try jacket potatoes a couple of times but it was a big FAIL without the crispy skin you get by baking. Almost forgot peas/petit pois, much nicer done from frozen in the microwave rather than in a pan.

No doubt I'll remember a few more things as I think about it, but a microwave is certainly something I can live without.

I hope all you microwave users are microwaving in glass bowls or plates. I stopped using plastic in them years ago after my aunt warned that some react with the food and all kinds of horrible things happen.

If you're not sure if your products are OK here's a link:

I'm safe, I use an asbestos dish.

A lot of plastic stuff comes with appropriate symbols for use with microwaves, dishwashers etc. Have done for years. ;)

Forgot about that, I always cook my scrambled eggs in the microwave. Haven't had them for ages though!

My wife cooks her jacket potatoes in the microwave, she cooks them in the microwave for ten minutes then bungs them in the oven for 20 to crisp the skins up, saves a lot of time and is almost as good.

We do that on a school day when we don't have hours to wait. Does she put a cross in the top with a bit of salt sprinkled on them before putting in oven? They come up lovely then.

We do that to, saves mucking about.

When my friend moved into her house a few years back she only had a microwave to start off with. Me and the GF went around for something to eat, obviously we weren't expecting much, and she managed to cook a gorgeous 3 course meal, from scratch!
