In my opinion Kung Fu is very much more of a traditional Martial Art, focused on improving yourself both mentally and physically.

Bratty kinda had a point, to be fair.

Oli, glad you enjoyed it. JJ, don't think that your body limits you. It is the smallest problem. Sure, Tai Chi or yoga, or anything else in the more meditative spectrum may well work for you, but when it comes to the other things the main limiter will be the level of trust and experience amongst the dojo.

I can still train ninjutsu despite having a weak right ankle as a result of a fracture that occurred in the exact same dojo. That's because I trust the people I train with and I push myself.

Anyone can learn anything, if they want it enough.

I guess i was harsh on him...

I just saw the whole "i hate it when", the angry emotes and the whole "smarmy" attitude and it just didn't sit right with me. Literal translations of chinese (and other languages for that matter) will never work, each language has its own nuances and whilst you can approximate what something can mean or translate to, it won't necessarily mean the exact same thing.

Kung Fu can be referred to and applied to many different things, but that doesn't mean if you tell a chinese person that you study Kung Fu they won't know what you mean.

Went again tonight and again it was awesome!

The teacher there (I'm not sure what the term is for kung fu) is an old Chinese guy (think Mr Miyagi) and really cool.

I told him about my previous martial arts and he has said he should be able to fast track me through the gradings to a higher level (green or blue he said but not sure what the grade colours are).

Should be awesome!

I've got a DVD of some of the forms and he said to use it to teach myself the forms at home and then he can refine the skill during the lessons.

Should be cool! Although my DVD drive in my MBP is FUBAR and randomly only plays about 50% of the DVDs that I put into the drive. The other 50% spin a few times and then get spat out :(

+ Term for the teacher.... "Shi-Fu ?"

That's what i think it would be... and that would be the Mandarin pronunciation i believe... Cantonese would be "See-Fu".

I always get the Chinese and Japanese terms mixed up - one is sifu, the other in sensei. I just can't remember which is which.

You made me question myself there for a minute since both sounded perfectly natural for me to say...

Damn my years of Anime watching, it's brainwashed me from my own language -.-'.
