Oh, come on!

A movie with a gynaecologist called Dr Mott? It's worth watching for that joke alone.

BTW, I thought Grosse Point Blank was great.

I have finally got round to watching the trailer. It looks totally unbelievable. Wasn't that a black president in the White House?

Actually, I agree with the all-rolled-into-one comments. It looks like we've seen it all before in different contexts, but it still looks like it's worth a watch if it's the kind of film that floats your boat.

I still can't forgive Independence Day for one piece of total bulls**t. When one of the cities explodes and Wil's girlfriend saves herself by going into the service/escape tunnel. It's stuff like that which is just totally stupid that I can't forgive film makers for- like the amazing flying bus in Speed.

Have a look here for an examination of the physics of Independence Day, etc. Worth reading just for their review of "The Core." :D :D

You guys are too busy being cynical to just enjoy the ride. Not all movies are about reality. If they were, nobody would go.

Chill out and just have fun watching

I know what you mean but there are times when, for a particular individual, you just see something that brings you out of the film - and that's assuming you weren't left bored by the lack of story or awful direction (in the main) these days to begin with

In my most chilled out state, that film would still be dire, am I supposed to be thrilled by pixels and crap acting?

The games industry hopes so. ;)

I can enjoy films for many different reasons.

When all said and done, Eddie Murphy's Dr Dolittle was dire, but it was so funny the first time around that I did enjoy it.

American Beauty would have been a pretty dull study of mid-life crisis if it wasn't for the humour and the strong cast.

I wouldn't have even watched Mrs Brown if it wasn't for Billy Connolly, but I really like that film.

Jurrasic Park, Transformers and others often try to pitch poor story lines and hope that the special effects action makes up for it.

If I was to put together a list of my all time favourite films, it would include many different genres, but "all effects and no story" films would not get in the top 50, I reckon.

That's doing it a disservice, a scientist has brought dinosaurs backb to life and there's a secret tropical island full of them. It's a classic science fiction fantasy storyline, dealing with human hubris and questioning our real strength in the face of nature.

Add to that strong character actors and perhaps one of the greatest theme tunes put to film, and you have what is known as a good film, its sequels were [LIFTED].

And the veggiesaurus sneezing a hundred gallons of snot all over Lex was really cool, as was her "Linux hacking" :D

To my mind, that film's as close to perfect as I can think of, in terms of a study of the craft. It's much more than a simple mid-life crisis study.

That film gets better every time I watch it.

I don't have a problem with the concept of Jurassic Park, I just think that it relied heavily on special effects and lost site of a story as it progressed. I also dislike very stupid things like the keeper/ranger/whatever- Pete Postlethwaite supposingly having an impressive firearm with which to deal with errant dinosaurs, when in fact he had a pretty average pump/auto 12 bore (or gauge) shotgun iirc.

I'm not saying that it wasn't good. The story line was pretty strong, BUT, I think that without the humour, as artistic as it might have been, it would not actually have been enjoyable in the same way. The humour helped me to stay interested in the movie and therefore I consider this a film that I enjoyed on more than one level- or something like that.

I really got the part about the neighbour and his filming. The plastic bag sequence was really something.
