Well, I prefer to answer University Challenge and Only Connect questions now in order to relax. It'd be a bit like asking Michel Roux Junior to make some oven chips.

Ah, what the hell. I'll give it a go, even a Chef should eat oven chips sometimes. :D

Edit: 15/15, twas kind of fun actually. :D

jonbwfc I was behind her in a queue today - but I wouldn't describe it as 'bushy'.

I just assumed that it was a simple number->letter substitution, then looked at where numbers where in the same place within each code and then compared it to work it out.

For example, i saw that "4" was both the 3rd number in "6245" and "1345". The only words which had the same 3rd letter were MAST and LEST, which meant "4" = "s".

From that there was only one set of numbers for Q7 which began with a "4" (for STEEL) and only one set of numbers which had a "4" as it's 3rd letter (for TASTE).

The codes are not arranged in the same order as the words

I didn't make the same assumption and ran out of time, 12/15  and a glass of wine probably didn't help either...
