Well done, did you pull the IAM member line?

Nope. I pulled the "your parent company just quoted me less for more" routine.

I'm insured through Diamond, which is a sister company of Admiral, both owned by EUI Ltd. I did an online quote with GoCompare, which gave me Admiral as the best.

Diamond quoted my renewal at £242. My online quote, with additional named driver and compulsory £60 excess, was £181. Bridget (with the 'd') down there in Cardiff matched the Admiral price.

It pays to haggle, folks.

It certainly does.

Today, at work, I managed to negotiate (ie blag):

At least four, and hopefully six, tickets to the Fairford Air Tattoo
Almost a third off our electricity prices for the next two years (got a renewal quote from BG, immediately phoned them back with a much better quote from E-on, which they matched, and fixed for two years)
A load of freebie extras (couple of hundred quids worth) for a new pressure washer we've ordered.

Not a bad haul for the day! :D

Back on topic, I can't really pick any one thing to be happy about, so far this has been one of those years where nothing much is going on.
However, home life and love life is all good, I have a job that pays reasonably, health is good, so I'm just damn well going to go ahead and be happy anyway. :P

I'm a three figure sum lighter after the cost of the work. Labour for fitting 4 new discs, pads and a change of brake fluid (supplied by me), the MOT.
Except I can't cover it, so I'm now in debt to the olds.
But this is the happy thread, so I wasn't going to mention it.

What's to be happy about?

I've just made a particularly good cup of tea.
I managed to get the BPS to agree to let me renew my membership at the cheap rate even though it lapsed about 15 years ago.
I have an evening of doing pretty much nothing ahead.

I'm happy that I have finally received a response to the two letters I wrote to my bank months ago, after writing a personal letter to the CEO. I can finally sleep easier at night :D

Peter.

I'm currently happy about some of my recent eBay wins.

Even happier that I'll soon have a week off - region-specific holidays and annual leave FTW! :D

EDIT - And Guns N Roses on Spotify is just 8-)

As in the band or do you have children ;) ?

I started listening to Iron Maiden and Marilyn Manson again today, the new album of the latter is a bit crap bar a few select tracks
