I am sure they have done some tarting up around other venues around the country. I can only comment on what I see here in London.

Not having a TV I'll probably not see the Olympics, just like I didn't see the jubilee or last years royal wedding.
All of these events have had so much negativity on here and other social networking sites, but this is our history. I could probably have been done better, it could probably have been done cheaper. But it is what it is and I'm somewhat disappointed I'll be missing out.

I hope the games go well for the athletes. They're the ones who've worked hard to get where they are, and they deserve respect and support. I'll not be watching - at least not on purpose - because I generally don't care for such things. I've been negative since the games were awarded to London in 2005, so I am not likely to change my mind now. Good luck to everyone competing, from whichever nation they come from, and s*d off McDonalds, Coca-Cola, Cadbury's, Samsung, Proctor and Gamble, and every other corporation that saw a nice fat profit in it. I am actively avoiding your products as a protest at your profiteering.

I watched some of the GB v NZ ladies football yesterday. GB won the game 1-0.
I have to say that the bits of the game that I saw were far more entertaining than anything I've seen from the Premiereship this last year. Huge congrats to both sets of players.

Yeah bloody great. Thanks to you I've just found out 60,000 will be descending on my town for the white water events. Didn't know the venue could hold that many people! Guess it's changed since I was last there lol *email to boss* Might not be able to make it in to work after all

I am watching the UAE vs URU game on tv at the moment, the stadium is half empty! Surely if they cant sell the tickets then they should just give them away, its not as though people haven't already paid for them.

Thing is you see, a lot of football fans work for a living, so they're just not going to be there even for free. Tonight's game is apparently a sell out and most of the evening games have done well but a game kicking off at 2or 3PM on a weekday is never going to get a big local 'casual' crowd, so you're left to the few hardy souls who support either team. Plus a lot of the events are ticket only. They allowed 'walk ups' for the women's games yesterday and got a pretty good crowd for most of them. Archery tomorrow. Very much looking forward to that.

I can say, with certainty, that if LOCOG offered the midday tickets to the millions of youngsters who are currently off school then they would have been snapped up. No doubt they are no allowed in without parents or some other silly rule though...

I suspect there are general UK laws about the ratio of children to adults within football grounds. Post Bradford/Hillsbrough it wouldn't surprise me at all. Plus, I've been in a football stadium where they did that i.e. it had a much higher than usual percentage of children in the crowd. The atmosphere it produces is... different. Much more similar to a Justin Bieber concert I'd imagine. It's not an experience I'd wish to repeat. BBC News were saying this evening that they were going to give away some of the tickets to the opening ceremony, which had gone unsold, to servicemen and their families. It seems a facile observation at this point but I suspect anyone with half an ounce of sense could have told them charging £2012 for the tickets in question was a joke not many people were likely to get.... Kind of disappointed that for the first week at least we're not going to have an interwebz connection or a TV. It's just the way things work out sometimes. Oh well (8-)
