That's a good one, after eight or nine trips to the blood donation people, I still cling onto the bed just before the put the needle in...

I have a fear of being hit by a fast moving vehicle, and of falling from great heights.

I really hate crossing railways, even if there are green lights. I have little faith in the signals. I also hate crossing roads or cycling where visibility is poor, because I have little faith in other drivers.

I don't mind heights, provided I have confidence in the security of any safety equipment I'm using. I have very little confidence in my own dexterity, so I'd rather be 1000' up with a good rope than 2' up on a chair.

the fear manifests itself in a desire to step off the high place.

The strange compulsion to go over the edge is something which has worried me mostly in my dreams. When I was about 7 I started having nightmares that I was laying on the pavement, but something was compelling me to roll over the curb and into the traffic.

It reminds me of the psychology experiment; "Whatever you do, don't press that button".

Up until last year I had a fear of escalators, I've had this since a child but didn't realise that's where it stemmed from. I feared that it would go up and as it did it would change incline into a curve in that I would simply fall off. It was from being taken up in a buggy and staring at the ceiling on them. Now I don't mind as I know where it came from.

Strange but true.

Ah, that would be called anablephobia = Fear of looking up.

Also,

Cynophobia = Fear of dogs.
Aichmophobia = Fear of needles or pointed objects.
Arachnophobia = Fear of spiders.
Coulrophobia- Fear of clowns.
Autophobia (or monophobia) - the fear of being alone

and of course

Phobophobia = Fear of phobias.

I have catagelophobia and enossophobia..

Am I the only one who thinks it would have been funny if you had used "tinyurls" for the links and had them point to giant pictures of the phobia, for example clicking on Coulrophiba would have shown a giant picture of a scarey@rsed clown :shock: :lol: :P

I've had a fear of constriction since I was 5 when I was wrapped in a blanket at hospital to stop me from waving my arms about when I was having stitches put in my forehead.

I'm fine with all animals apart from maggots, bloody wriggly things.

Natural heights such as trees, cliffs and mountains don't affect me, but man made heights such as bridges and cathedrals (Sagrada Familia) I am much more wary of. Something to do with trust I imagine.

The thing that most concerns me at the moment is riding the 'Dinghy Of Death' at work. Under certain circumstances being in the dinghy is downright scary when you have 400t of mothership bearing down on you at several knots when you are a sitting duck. There is something about a bulbous bow rising and falling through the swell, that could either push you under or flip you over that gets scarier every time it happens. :o

Those 'fear of words' are all made up you know? They're just made by people who are really into words, they're not really medical descriptions.

I guess I lied about my last post in here, saying I didn't have any fears.

On Thursday, we went to a tower block (flats) in Sheffield as part of a geography trip. Walking up the stairs, I didn't feel safe at all. I think what set me off was that the concrete on the stairs was very thin, and as we were on the top floor, it was a bloody long way down!

Although I'm not scared of heights - I can climb tall trees all day, etc - I guess I'm afraid of man-made structures. :shock:

:P

All words are made up, but a rose by any other name is just as thorny.

Try going all the way round the shop without letting go of a metal part of the trolley. That way you should continually discharge any static build-up without actually getting shock. Well, it works for me anyway. Makes doing the shopping a bit awkward though :(

When I was younger I had a fear of being melted. It really freaked me out. Shouldn't have Watched Robocop or The Last Starfighter. Seem to have gotten over it though since I now do a fair amount of work with acid.
I guess I have a bit of claustrophobia but only in really confined spaces. Fine with lifts and cupboards and so on as long as I can turn round or back out.
Had the escalator thing for a long time. But only on Down ones. I think I thought I was going to do it wrong and fall right down them and get sucked under at the bottom. Again, all is fine now.

I don't have any particular problems with clowns but this I found a little unsettling.

With spiders I tend to find it's very much a size/proximity thing. Small spiders I don't mind at all. It's big crunchy ones that I don't like coming too close. At a distance I'm quite happy to leave them alone.

Don't like wasps. But then I don't think I've ever met anyone that does.

Maybe there's an ageing totem pole using Bebo on the other side :lol:

Sorry

I dont like Spiders but wouldnt call it a phobia. I also dont like heights if I feel unsafe. I guess technically I dont like the thought of falling rather than the height. I dont care about heights if Im strapped in for example a roller coaster.

My biggest fear is dying. Not the actual death but the thought the world will just go on without me and I'll miss out on flying cars, Transformers 15, etc of you get what I mean.
