Innit. Would those who are acronymed up please post their school leaving year? I'm intrigued as to whether I'm too old or young, or whether I'm just a spaz who managed an A whilst missing something so semmingly obvious... I finished in 1998.

I sat GCSEs in 2001 I think. However I only heard of the acronym somewhile later and only because some one outside of school mentioned it. I was just taught the order of priority without any kind of acronym which was fine for me. But then again I love maths so paid far more attention to it than a lot of other subjects.

Grade 'A' GCSE Maths in 1990 - never heard of BODMAS or the other acros. before today!! (mind, I suppose 22 years is a long time to forget - sometimes I can't remember what I did yesterday, never mind 22 years ago)

Not really. My mum was taught BODMAS (or something similar) when she was at school between 1958 & 1966. My sisters were taught it somewhere between 1983 and 1992 I wasn't taught it at all between 1991 and 1996 and had to learn it at university My brother was taught it somewhere between 1994 and 2000

It's a pity I don't have my photo of the formula used to calculate the annular pressure drop while drilling. It's a beast. I had to do it all by hand at mud school.

I learnt BOMDAS (as I was taught, seems everybody else was taught BODMAS!) around 1988. Can't remember the exact year, but I remember being taught it by Mr Dean around the age of ten when I was in form 3.
I remember the exact class as I didn't really understand what he was going on about with it not mattering whether multiplication or division came first, something this exact problem and google has finally cleared up for me last night (it's done from left to right as written).
I did my gcses in 94. I did go to private school though, so my education is kind of out of whack with anyone of my age who was state educated.

No reason to feel bad about not understanding some sort of question that's designed to catch people out. I think jon's summed it up pretty well.
If you haven't been taught the rules, how can you play the game?! Any [LIFTED] that tries to catch people out with this sort of [LIFTED] is a [LIFTED]. Same goes for people who treat general knowledge as an indicator of intelligence.
