They are not as good as they think they are. No idea if Compton would have done any better, but I was not in favour of Root and 180 aside have been relatively vindicated.

To be fair, there are at least 4 other batsmen who are much more experienced than Root who haven't got near a century, let alone 180. You can't blame the kid if the people who are supposed to be helping him along are doing clown impressions instead. Not sure under those circumstances Compton would do better but it wouldn't be entirely his fault either.

Top three out for 50. One pretty decent ball to Root and two attempts from Cook & Trott that I would be embarrassed by, let alone an international cricketer, swishing at balls that weren't within miles of the wicket. I can hear Geoffrey Boycott exploding from here.
