Meant no offense, merely an observation of the schools that I have come into contact with.

I'm the only one in my extended family that has been privately educated, and the only one that has played rugby. All the others went to different state schools around Brighton and Hove (12 in total, I have a bit of a chav-clan) and they didn't get to play Rugger.

I was moved to right wing out of necessity - i'm not good at the whole "teamwork" thing when playing rugby, so giving the ball away was a problem. If you want a job done properly, do it yourself!

Whereas, Rugby is seen as more of a "real man" sport, where getting hurt is part of the game and you do it in all weather, for the love of the competition.

Although, all that "hands through the legs" stuff still makes me giggle

for the love of the competition and the large wage packets. Rugby Union has been pro for some time now.

Yeah, but my point is about the "perception".... Footballers wages are advertised widely and (in some cases) ridiculed, you don't hear so much about Rugby players pay or transfer fees (IMO)

dont worry they are trying to catch up.

jonnies transfer

spiraling wages

A huge increase in the annual salaries of the Premiership’s top players, from £180,000 three or four years ago to between £300,000 and £350,000 now, has prompted fears that rugby may be “heading for a football-type scenario”.

Thats was in sep 2008. Nothing in comparison to the top footballers but there making there way up the wage ladder.

Either way, yes, CC, I can see the homoerotic side of football. But equally, I think it's an easy observation to make about any organisation which discourages mixing of the genders. All boys together, eh? *shivers*

Glad it is not just me.

Good point about the gender thing. However it seems to me to be more than that.

Cricket, Golf, Baseball, Motor racing, and Snooker are men only but these sports don't have the same je ne se qua.

20-30 fashion-concious wimps running up and down a field all day in short shorts and tight shirts is bound to cause a spot of light bummery. Even more so when they fall over for the whimsical reasons they do, and burst into tears because their hair has become unspiked.

It's not just the players either...Other men go to watch these men run around in shorts for an hour and a half!

I must admit I've never enjoyed sports, though watching it seems even more pointless than playing it :?

Ben, I'm the same. I dislike nearly all sports eg. If my mum's watching football, tennis etc I try and get out of the way as quickly as possible.

Also, I don't get why people like it. One of my friends who is a massive footy fan (Yes Brad, thats you.:)) can't give a reason for liking football other than "its just good". I mean, I can explain what I like about Motocross (there's lots of crashes and injuries, and it requires real skill to handle the 450cc bikes :D) but 9 times out of 10 people do the same "its just good" for Football.

Although having said that I don't watch Motocross on the TV either. Partly because it makes me want to ride so bad, and partly because I get bored quickly because the pro's don't have bikes setting on fire. :D

What is even more baffling is how these footie supporters often end up supporting teams that have literally no connection with them. I can understand supporting Liverpool if you are from Liverpool, but if you have never been there, have no family there or have no connection to the area, getting all worked up about the team makes no sense. One of my colleagues supports Stoke....he's a born & bred Pontypridd man. :? I know the team names are pointless these days - there are very rarely players from that particular area in the team, but if anything that just makes the whole thing even more pointless?

I'm a Welsh rugby supporter first and foremost, but the only other team I would consider supporting is the one playing against England...! ;)
