Well I for one, appreciate what Bally's trying to do. It's not supposed to be definitive. Perhaps the thread title is misleading. It's just for fun and out of an interest in what's what. Were none of you that inquisitive and enthusiastic in your younger days? I think the benches are interesting and I'd like to see more. Will it affect my decision on what to buy in the future? Maybe not. But it's still interesting to read.

Of course. I'm still not that old now! I just find it futile comparing two different OS's that are designed to run on seperate hardware in an effort to prove which is 'fastest'.

Bally, may I add to this?
Someone mentioned a comparison on video encoding might be good. I could shove Win 7 Pro on my Mac Pro over the weekend and see how handbrake fares ripping a movie from a DVD image on both Win 7 Pro and OS 10.6
It wouldn't be "fair" because OS X has been used for a few weeks and the Win 7 installation would be fresh...But it could be interesting to see...

If people would like me to do tests using other cross-platform free software, then I'll see what I can do (if Bally is OK with that?)

Yeah, sure Ben.

I'll download Handbrake tonight and try ripping a AVI file from a DVD or something.

Heh, you're a fine one to comment on other people making spelling mistakes. (8+p

Isn't Windows 7 still crippled on bootcamp?

There was a video driver problem, which can be bypassed, on the 27" iMac and W7 isn't officially supported, but there is a workaround for that too AFAIK.

Apple being Apple?

Maybe the next update will allow Windows 7 to work so the Apple fanboys can show the world Windows isn't crippled

Forgive me for not understanding, but I've read this thread, and I am completely at a loss to what is being demonstrated. The OS speed?
Surely it's a matter of preference and depends on a ton of variables?
