I wonder if they would get away with selling it here...

For brewing beer, there is the "Rheinheitsgebot" (Beer purity order, 1571) which only allows the use of water, barley, and hops. You can't include anything else in the process and sell it as beer. I know if means a lot of British and Belgium beers, for example, aren't available over here.

They can't stop it. Any article that can be legally sold in one EU country can be sold in the others - no national law may prevent this*

The "Reinheitsgebot" were in breach of Article 28 EC as they prevented the importation of beer from other EU States, thus the ECJ declared them incompatible with Community Law.

Quote:
In May 1987, a European Court of Justice ruling led to the Reinheitsgebot being lifted, allowing ingredients beyond what is listed in the Biergesetz; this meant that anything allowed in other foods was thus also allowed in beer. The ingredient requirements have since been moved from the Biersteuergesetz into the regular food additives laws, though beer brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot receive special treatment as a protected, "traditional" food.

Article 28 EC:

"28. Quantitative restrictions on imports and all measures having equivalent effect shall be prohibited between Member States."

*there are certain exemptions, none of which apply here.

True, but they aren't classed as beer, they are "inferior" products.

All the major German breweries still brew to the Rheinheitsgebot - with the exception of wheat beer.

It also means thing like Cab are sold as alcopops, not beer derivatives.
