Its interesting the last company I worked for that insisted on suits did so for the following reason.
Its so that when you go home and put more casual cloths on your can relax better....... if you wear the casual cloths to work and at home then you don't switch off from work as effectively when you get home.

+1 Furthermore I like to have 4 sets of shirts. - Office shirts - white
- Evening shirts - black (or white wing collar)
- Casual shirts - usually green or brown check
- Work shirts - preferably with no collar for things like DIY or haymaking

My mum brought me up to always change out of my school uniform when I got home and I always changed when I wore posh clothes to work. These days I put PJs or tracky bottoms on when I get home if I'm uncomfortable. Bra always comes off as I'm sure any woman will tell you (designed by a mac of course!)
