The fact that the iPad has limited multitasking puts it in the same position as many net books. How many will actually pay extra to replace Windows 7 starter on a net book. The people I know would stick some version of linux on it instead.

The thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t have an “up”. I mean, how the hell am I supposed to know which way up to hold it? I bet most of the time I get it wrong and have to turn it the right way round after switching it on.

Yeah that is so true. No up. It says so on the advertising video.

The video even tells you there is no right way to hold it. They admit it.

I bet it is not even optimised for right handers to use.

I've started wondering whether we actually need multi-tasking, as long as there's some kind of interupt/push-alert system. I play music, but besides that I seldom need to multi-task. I do multi-task, but do I need to between all my apps?

I do not think that it is so essential. If I can listen to music as I do other things like read or play a game then there is no problem. I think that I will only want a couple of apps running and if they include one of the core apps then that is not really going to affect me.

That's what I'm starting to realise. I can, perfectly happily, work with only music being multi-tasked with my main work, so long as I can receive notifcations from other applications, and events can still be pushed to them whilst they're in the background.

I feel the lack of multi-tasking and flash are non-issues - we just need to lose our old patterns and habbits. Current methods are not necessarily correct.

Multitasking is critical if you want to communicate. An instant messenger or VoIP application is kinda pointless if you can't run it in the background while doing something else.

Mind you, since this pile of poop doesn't even have a camera or microphone or keyboard I guess it's not meant for communicating. It's just the world's most expensive picture frame, except you can't actually get your pictures on it because there's no card reader, bluetooth or USB port.

I'll be sticking to my netbook until these things are so cheap I can afford one to just leave lying around the house looking cool; except by then they won't be cool any more...

I can walk and talk and breath and eat and zip my jacket up and any number of things at the same time.
If that makes me a lady in your eyes then so be it. (8+p

I was following CC's lead and going for random criticism above accuracy. The nature of this thread is such that one can vent like a bitch without letting facts get in the way.

You might get a nasty surprise.

I thought as much. This thread is proving to be very enjoyable indeed.

Hey! my criticism may be random but it is accurate enough.
