LOL

If I spent £20 a month on repairing my bike (I'm guessing this is a reasonably high average to cover any circumstances) plus £9 a month on insurance (a quote I've seen online) then I could get the train one way everyday to work and still it costs less than running my car for a month.

I would estimate that if you spend more than £5 a month on repairs you are doing something wrong. Insurance can be another matter.

That's the site I got the quote from.

Kevlar tyres are probably not included. I could get away with topping up the puncture repair kit once a year and replacing the inner tubes every year.

If one is diving so close to the limits that +/- 1% will make a difference then the error has already been made.

Hopefully I can get rid of the need with the right panniers.

I only ever shop for one so I don't need that much anyway.

Right, I'll be on the phone to the cycle shop tomorrow and finding out how long it takes to get the bike from once I have paid for it.

If necessary buy a few bits daily, that way wit will be fresher.

You may want to get left panniers to maintain balance.

A lot of work places do bike purchase schemes where you get the bike a lot cheaper. The payments come out of your salary so you make tax and NI savings.

Like this and this

Yeah, I asked about that yesterday.

My work doesn't (and won't) do anything like that.

But you can't pull wheelies in a (road legal, standard-spec) car. Not that you'd want to, mind.
