One of my pension plans has found some extra cash to add to my fund, which is nice.

Thought i'd move over here.
Had an interview for a Masters today as mentioned in the "Fail" thread (thanks for the good luck's).
Have a tentative "yes" from the University (assuming all goes well).
The interview wasn't as bad as i'd thought, although the science questions were focused more on A Level stuff which was even more rusty than the Uni stuff (but thankfully more simple). After a bit of umm's, ah's and memory jogs i was able to answer them to a satisfactory level.

Good luck mate.
I remember with my BSc, I had a VIVA and had to draw a condensation reaction for the formation of a dipeptide. This was drawing on stuff I'd learnt five years earlier at A-levels.

With the news on the boards recently this feels a bit selfish, but things are really going my way at the moment. In two weeks I leave a dead-end job to go on a holiday/see my girlfriend in North America, I'm financially free until the new year. I start a law degree in September, looking forward to the challenge of a career as a solicitor. To contrast, my great uncle, the leader of the oldest brass band in the world, aged 98 recently died and his funeral was on Tuesday, accompanied by a stunning brass band, reminiscent of the funerals of New Orleans, and very poignant. He was on the beaches fighting on Juno and was the most popular, humble, gracious, generous man I've ever met, if I live to be half the man he was I'll be proud of the way I have lived my life. But, here's to the good times.

Right on. Far too easy to focus on the doom and forget about the fact that sun will come up tomorrow and shine on us all. Never figured you as a one for soliciting though...

Yeah it took me by surprise when I actually found a law book interesting, glad I didn't pursue law when I was 19 though, it was a toss up between an English and law degree, I definitely feel I'm coming at it from a much more mature angle now though, really looking forward to going back to academia, something I never thought I'd say... if I had the choice I'd be going back to uni but the Tories have put paid to that, no second degrees for people unless you own land. So I'm going to a law college, not as rich an environment for learning, you can't just pop into a philosophy or biology lecture... but i reckon i'm going to enjoy it

I just found out I'll be getting paid for the day I leave the rig (which doesn't normally happen). Kudos to Total for that. What's even better is that even though I may be getting booted off on Tuesday, because it's for bed space for the production crew, I still get paid day rate until my scheduled crew change of Friday!!! Even more kudos to Total for that. I like working for them

The other day I got an email from Groupon re a discount on some sports gear. I decided to look around and for the half price I found similar items via amazon. So ordered three pairs of shorts, and when they arrived got a free one pint mug out of the blue with it, and saved a lot more than I would have got with the so called discounter.

My broadband has just gone from 4.6 Mbps download to over 6Mbps. The only difference between yesterday and today - it rained heavily. Me thinks this is some sort of bizarre line fault (as the line attenuation and SNR have stayed the same as they were yesterday). Wonder how long it'll last.

As long as you continue the rain dance.

You're well over a thousand meters from the exchange, and if a lot of that is underground then wet weather will effect the maximum speed you can get. Burying a cable in wet ground increases it's inductance but also screens it from interference from nearby cables. You may well find that your maximum daytime sync is better than that at night. That's due to atmospherics increasing interference in the medium wave band after dark, and is a stronger effect if your cables are overhead. You tend to only notice these effects on ADSL2+ products, because then old MAX products have a very much longer delay on the reprofiling. If I ever move to a new house, the first thing I'll check is the distance to the exchange

I saved £4.60 from by haggling them about having to pay £7.99 for 3 items (2 fans and a mouse), its not much, but I feel better about it

So I won a meat tray last week in a raffle that they hold at the bowls club I play poker at. Anyway it was massive and will keep me going for ages.....I only went and won another one tonight! No need to buy any meat for a while! Also, I came 2nd tonight out of 30 so I got a 6 pack too.
