Add me to the HCI list. Was part of my degree. Not as intesting though as the special guest lecture topic of making websites for the blind.

+1

Wasn't much at uni but through working learned it's real-world importance

A video beautifully showcasing both the scenery of Scotland and the mind-boggling riding of Danny Mac

Why does it feel like a Monday today?

When I started it was called 'Human Computer Interaction' or HCI for short. Basically it's a mix of 'hard science' stuff like ergonomics and design - stuff where you can prove empirically that doing something like this rather than like that is better or faster - and the more airy-fairy stuff about what people like or don't like.

im covering this in a unit for my foundation degree at the moment :D sounds like it hasnt changed much, we are covering very similar topics :)

We did a unit in my second year, we looked at real world things like how handles on doors generally infer that the door should be pulled while a plate infers it should be pushed. We then went on to how to build a good website...

i see a lot of doors with handles on both sides too, maybe these two problems are linked? :P

LOL especially if no glass panel tends to end up with door in face. :D

Our answer to that in work is badly-placed monitors and signs being put up

From a Facebook advert -

"Hugh Jackman's Workout!
Learn how actors like Hugh Jackman gained muscle, burned fat and got in shape fast, free, and easy. Learn more on this unique workout!"

Remember the words 'fast, free and easy'.

For that role, he was eating 6 times a day, every 4 hours, with little or no carbohydrate intake apart from (IIRC) a dry piece of brown bread at 4am.
And 1.5 hrs of working out every day, presumably for months.

Yeah. Fast, free and easy? We must have different definitions...

Forget the fast and free bits. What I'd like to know is just how easy is it to eat ZERO carbs all day every day?? Carbs are bloody everywhere!

It probably helps if you've got a chef and a nutritionist on hand. And don't have to go out to do a proper job. And have an effectively infinite supply of money.
