You stick to chicken and green veg, pretty much.

Even then, the greens contain 2-3% carb.

There was a fairly well known case about an american football player who went a week and a half on just chicken and black coffee before collapsing in training and spending a very long time in hospital as a result. I recall from somewhere that your brain requires a certain amount of carb just to function.

Yeah, I was always told (for my exercise goal) not to have potato, but sweet potato instead.
Unlike the fellas who were there to pile on the muscle - they were having lots of potato and turkey.

Exactly.

But I guess Jon's point is right. The guy doesn't have the constraints that we do. Buying food and successfully eating even low carbs is very difficult when you have a job to attend and a budget to stick to.

Having just done roughly two weeks of meat, eggs and leafy green veg, it gets very pricey and very dull very quickly. Even now, I'm not eating a huge amount of other stuff, but have expanded to things like onions, tomatoes etc.

Definitely stearing clear of bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar, milk etc.

Problem is that they are staples for me!

That's a totally unbalanced diet. Anyone doing that will loose wait but severely damage their health.

I prefer the quartered plate : 1/2 veg, 1/4 meat, 1/4 veg. And never mix carbs at meals and don't eat between meals.

A lot of people eat healthily, main problem is portion control.

This is a false economy. Eating between meals is actually better for you - providing you eat the right stuff.

careful, because you might not be able to eat dairy anymore if you cut it off your diet completly. Lactose tolerance is not genetic, it's acquired

If you eat well and at sensible times, you dont need to eat between meals.
But you need carbs for that.

You don't need to, no. But it can help to improve energy levels, digestive health and weight loss. There is a balance to be had between zero carbs and 3 square meals. At least for me there is. Been doing it for nearly a year now.

I'd go along with the rolling meals idea that Okenobi's suggesting.
Little and often, of the right things, rather than 3 meals in a day. Of course, you need to adapt your day to suit it, and not be snacking on junk, but it works.
Also, to further muddy the waters, and depending on what you're trying to achieve, we could start talking about the glycemic index...

Someone posted the Twinky Diet on here a while back. Pretty much proved that losing weight has nothing to do with healthy eating and everything to do with calories v exercise.

Healthy eating is about staying healthy into your old age. For that, you need plenty of fresh veg and stick to no more than 1Kg of animal flesh or other derivative per week.

Of course, if you're obese then there's probably no old age to prepare for. I've never seen an obese person drawing their old age pension. All the octogenarians I've ever met were very wiry old birds.
