Transformers 3 - Far too many characters you couldn't give a stuff about (robot and human), enormous action sequences that seem to go on forever yet have absolutely no impact, the same misplaced 'humour' that hasn't helped it's predecessors, and the film's ridiculously long yet has next to no story... Glad I didn't pay to see it :P

I thought it was much better than the second so I rather enjoyed it.

+1. Better than the second. But think I've mentioned it before - there is very little obvious difference to differentiate between the Transformers. Other than Optimus and Bumblebee, I've always found it difficult to see who was who unless they called each other by names. This is what made it hard for me to care what happened to who.

Change Up

Saw this last night. Utter tosh. The first half of the film is mostly toilet humour and exactly what anybody would expect that has seen Freaky Friday, The Prince and The Pauper, Big or a host of other "change" films.

The premise is two good friends, one a successful lawyer on the verge of partnership in his firm, married with 3 children; the other a wanna-be actor who seems to spend all of his time either smoking joints or laying the female population of Atlanta flat on their backs... The two get drunk make a wish, that they had the others life and... they wake up in each other's bodies. The ensuing romp through set pieces with little or no surprise (it plays out just about every cliché for such a swap movie you can think up).

It goes through the destructive phase, the discovery phase, building up to the Hollywood happy end. After 20 minutes, I nearly walked out at w30 minutes, I was wishing I had... In the last 20 minutes, I was glad that I hadn't. The ending didn't have any surprises, but it did make me look around me.

2/5

Captain America

The best superhero film of recent years (I appreciate that isn't saying much!*), it sort of invokes the spirit of the original Indy Jones films and knows not to take itself too seriously. Has some genuine LOL moments as a result, coupled with good fight/action scenes that make it a worthwhile watch, probably whether you're a comic book fan or not.

* I haven't watched Green Lantern yet, though I'm not expecting much there...

I'll give it a go anyway, maybe tomorrow night actually :)

Just saw Straw Dogs.

It makes modern thrillers seem sterilised. It's horrible, traumatic, suspenseful, exhausting, gripping, I feel I have to rate it as one of the best films I've seen. It won't make you feel good, on the contrary it made me feel sick to my stomach. I can't really find anything life-affirming in it, other than maybe a "wake up, the world is violent and you have to protect what is yours" if that indeed can be a positive message. I would recommend you see it, with a caveat that if you don't like violence then whatever you do, don't. It was banned until 2002 in the UK, I can see why, but it is a quality, worthy film. It doesn't use violence gratuitously, if it did it would be easier to watch. Dustin Hoffman is flippin' amazing even though he didn't like the film. I'm definitely picking an unashamedly feel-good film to watch next though.

9/10

You know what, I've had that since 2007 and never gotten around to watching it. Only got it because I thought the girl had nice leg

Ah, the lovely Heather Mills

127 Hours.

If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself. It reminded me why I love films, and it reminded me how beautiful life is.

Watch it backwards - it's an uplifting tale of a disabled man who finds an arm in the desert.
