I do that every working day. Mind you, they are on a garage forecourt.

I've been awake for ten hours. I was supposed to spend much of that time revising. I've achieved maybe 10 mins.

Actually boys, it poured down last night and the cloud only broke this afternoon ;)

How's it going out there anyway mate?

Really, really well, thanks Dan. Sun is shining, but the brief rain was welcome for most of us. No doubt my clients will disagree, but 6mths without rain is kinda weird when you're British.

Anyway, turns out I'm actually rather good at my job. Which is nice. With every passing week, I make more friends, continue to improve my Spanish and cultivate new relationships outside of the ex-pat/rep culture. Por ejemplo, this week I took an epic Italian girl out for the afternoon and showed her some of my island highlights (and those ready with a PoiDH request - I can comply, but not right this second). She wanted to practice her English, but I got some language practice in too :)

I'm currently running on 95% customer satisfaction against a target of 86%, and looking after the top hotel in the world means that a fair few eyes are on me throughout the company, both here and in the UK. Do I want that? Not really. But if you're gonna do a corporatey job with spreadsheets and reporting, this is probably the one for me (at least for now).

In a couple of weeks they will confirm my winter placement and I'm 90% certain I shall remain here. The various hotel staff love me, my boss is impressed with my performance and my knowledge of the island and the people to know increases weekly.

I don't get a massive amount of time off, but I enjoy my work largely. It's not my life's purpose and I still search for that through reading, writing and meeting people/talking with them. But it's as flexible as this sort of job can be and it removes the need for me to worry about bills, housing or food and gives me access to a free car and phone. My only real annoyance is that I can't take a conventional holiday or even long weekend break to wherever else, like the rest of you. And of course, I'm available 24/7 by phone, because I can't trust my colleague with my customer service record (what with her way of upsetting people) on my day off.

So I guess I'm pretty frakking awesome on reflection. I've a lot more to do, and many more places to explore, people to meet and skills to perfect. But I'm far happier than I was in the UK and developing at a pace more suited to me.

Thanks for asking, I wasn't expecting to write that today :)

And Bratty, WTF?! Which one did you buy and where are the freakin pics?!

That's great to hear mate, it really is. Hope you don't mind me snipping out the pertinent pointers there but that pretty much wraps up what goes on when 'things go well'. :D

No worries, good to know it's going well. I've known many people move away to other climbs, sometimes it's worked out, sometimes not, so it's nice to hear when things work out. 8-)

Hopefully me an the GF will be in either NZ or Canada in 3 or 4 years and I can report back similar news. :D

Saying that, not sure she'd appreciate me taking out Italian lasses.

Took me ages to find an image that was SFW

Loved a lot of her super-cheesy film roles, but she'll always be the "bits girl" to me.

Now that show was proper post-pub telly. Weird how the three of them turned out in the end. Krotoski is a serious journalist (and still has a seriously irritating Lloyd Grossman-esque accent), God know what Booth is doing and Newton-Dunn actually works in video games, she's a producer I think.

Bought a Pentax 50mm f/1.7 from LCE for £14.99. Looks nice and clean. Will test it later.

I'm also hoping this will pave the way for me to get rid of the Sigma 50mm Macro and replace it with a fast 50mm prime (done!) and longer macro (sigma 105 or tamron 90).
