what use is the C&C system if the sub itself has been hacked? (I honestly wouldn't rule that out, we are clearly that stupid since all our infrastructure is apparently online).

The subs communicate with the C&C using some very unusual tech and by some fairly specific methods. Not particularly special or sophisticated but definitely... odd so if anybody tried to use the same tech to 'hack' the submarines, they'd be in trouble pretty quickly. The only reason you'd use that tech is to hack a sub and you'd be pretty easily pinpointable when doing so.

While some of our civil infrastructure uses domestic telecoms systems (and is therefore in some sense 'connected to the net') our military infrastructure pretty much doesn't. And apart from anything else, GCHQ spends as much time making sure it's secure as it does hacking into everyone else's. And believe me, they're not stupid people. The smartest person I know has a friend who is the smartest person HE knows and that guy works for GCHQ.

Is it theoretically possible someone could say shut a nuclear reactor down? Yeah, I'd say it's theoretically possible. Is it theoretically possible someone could drive a Trident sub into a sandbank or launch a missile? I'd say no. If a malicious ISIS hacker wanted to sow chaos, there are lots of civil target possibilities which are much, much more feasible than trying to get onto a sub. You should be much more concerned about say, UK ATC than the sub control centre.

Jeremy Corbyn to join other party leaders at anti-Trident rally | UK news | The Guardian

Yeah, we should definitely be part of a group that requires the 'leverage' and 'influence' of weapons of mass destruction.

Now that I think of it, what sort of nuclear attack capability has the rest of Europe got?

AFAIK the only other European country that has nukes is France. They may have more of them than us though not entirely sure and as for the types of delivery systems they've got I have no idea.

The don't have ICBMs but they have a set of subs I think plus aircraft delivered ones (effectively cruise missiles).

Right now I’m trying to imaging Prime Minister Corbyn dealing with President Trump in a Britain that’s not in the EU any more.

Momentum vows to protect Jeremy Corbyn from leadership challenge | Politics | The Guardian

As I've said before, mobilise them. But Corbyn needs to be slugging it out more publicly with the Tories. And what was that BS with accepting the snooper's charter so willingly?

Labour MPs hostile to Corbyn named in leaked party document | Politics | The Guardian

That's fcuking hilarious either way - and Cameron masterfully used it as a shield at PMQs.

Jeremy Corbyn sets up inquiry into Labour antisemitism claims | Politics | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... ism-claims

I suspect the whole thing has been contrived in recent months, though the party is clearly full of tits in the first place. Ken didn't actually say anything wrong in context from what I gather, but then why get involved in any sense? It's obvious how it was gonna play out.

It's a very specific issue, and who better to fall over it than the man who is historically for 'left-wing' terror representatives, for a lazy description.

I'm reminded, somewhat ironically now, of when Clarkson used to say, ' So I was on the internet...'.

It has to be said, the whole thing would have blown over much quicker if labour MPs would just stop going on TV and doing interviews about it. Not so much 'washing your dirty linen in public' as 'breaking into your neighbour's houses and leaving piles of your dirty linen on their sofa'

It's a bloody good argument.

Trying to imagine Prime Minister Corbyn talking to President Trump.

But, whether we like Corbyn or not, we have to remember that there’s a bigger, and therefore better, gap between about and the Tories. Before, they tended to be in agreement on most things, with any differences of opinion being more about implementation.

Labour is too busy gazing at its navel, with the Blairites in the PLP clearly trying to work out how to dethrone Corbyn who has massive party support at grass roots level.

Corbyn’s game is to show up Cameron and the Tories as spoilt schoolboy bullies with an over arching sense of entitlement. It would do him some good to land a few sucker punches himself. Playing the annoyed teacher isn’t doing him the favours he thinks it is.

The PLP really needs to sort itself out though.
